Title: CL Quarterfinals

Tuesday and Wednesday - early matches.  Set your PVRs.

Arsenal v. Pool is the best match on paper.  United should handle Roma no problem.  Barcelona v. Schalke shouldn't be much of a match to be honest but who knows.  I won't watch Chelsea v. Fenerbahce because *fudge* them that's why.

For you hobbit...  ;)

Thanks for the reminder, hmmmm lessseee, do I have anything on my plate Tomorrow and Wednesday.

*Seamus leafs through calendar*

NOPE! All clear.

PS. Someday I would love to hear the stories as why you guys have so much venom towards certain teams. Growing up on the left coast and not having a professional "anything" until I was older, I kind of missed out on all that "generational" hatred of franchises.

Damn.  [sm_devil]

My hatred of the Blues is fairly recent.  Their owner for the past five years or so, Russian oilman Roman Abramovich, has dropped a fortune on the transfer market in an effort to buy silverware.  This has artificially inflated the value of players worldwide and now we're at a spot where only the richest clubs have any chance at a title.  I lay the blame squarely at his feet.

Plus they play the most boring brand of football anywhere.  It's painful to watch.

So it's kind of like hating Steinbrenner and The Yankees, I dig.

Bingo!

I have no problem with a franchise spending money, but they have done it with no development at all.  Its purely free agent spending without any team building at all.

As much as the locals like to accuse my team, Arsenal, of bringing in nothing but foreigners - they have done it by developing young players... no overspending, no quick fix solutions (even though I wanted them too a few months ago).

And Uisce - I appreciate the thought, but I still didn't switch to DirectTV and Setanta - no live games for me :sad3:

Barca v. Schalke is on Setanta but United v. Roma is on ESPN(HD).

Not sure about Wednesday but my guess Reds v. Gunners will be on ESPN and the Chelsea match will be on Setanta.  I hope anyway.

Is there a farm system for European football?

Absolutely, in spades.  Reserve teams have their own matches, there are multiple divisions within each national organization (English F.A. has about ten), players are loaned to lesser leagues - often in other countries, youth academies (some better than others) and so on.

Van der Sar kept United in it and Ronaldo and Rooney put it away.  They are some team.  As much as I don't like them I'll give them all the credit in the world.

My cousin and I watched the first half in a pizza restaurant at lunch.  Behind us were a bunch of Irish guys watching the match over our heads.  Turned around after a few minutes to see a bunch of AIG logos on their gear.  *goshdarn* Mancky Wankies anyway.

Then Mark (Reds fanboi) started piping up about how much United suck.  Kinda scared me.   :fear:

United does suck. I lost over 50K miles because of their new Mileage Plus policy.

Liverpool hang on for a nice away draw (with away goal) having under 40% possession.  Mascherano and Kuyt stand out big time.  Strange how Gerrard doesn't show for some of these big matches.  Still, he created the goal in his one moment to shine.

Great stuff.  Riveting.

Anyone?  Anyone?  Anyone?

Didn't watch it but Chelsea caught a bad case of the Turkish.   [sm_rolling]

Yes, they hung on..... barely :sad3:.  I've never thought much of Kuyt, but he was everywhere in that match.

It was exciting to watch - a little slow starting the second half, but great otherwise (except for the outcome - grrrrrrrr).
