I can't say this is overly 'Shocking'. You can't just go lie to Congress. You can claim executive privilege and ignore the subpoena, you can take the 5th 'On Advice Of Counsel', you can issue a weak me culpa, you can even forget how to speak english. But you just can't *goshdarn* lie under oath and get away with it.

What really burns my britches about the whole steroid thing is how team owners and the league office and even managers I once respected (Tony LaRussa I'm talking about you) all claimed to have 'No Idea' what was going on. Hell, even the press (with a few exceptions) claimed to be mystified as to how 30 HR's a year went from leading the AL in the late 80's to being what some utility infielder would hit in 120 games by the turn of the century. Give me a *goshdarn* break.

There are 2 guys that get a pass: The beat writer for the Contra Costa Times knew something was very, very wrong with Canseco and McGwire in 1993 or 1994, and there was a Sporting News writer who did a whole piece on how buff everyone at the All Star game was about a year later.
