I was thinking more to repercussions via conduct. Vick: Bad conduct. Missed 2 years or more of football. Stallworth: Bad conduct. Should miss time. Many others: Bad conduct, have missed some football. So, 2 things. NFL isn't like life, they get to say and do what they want. Every dude who puts on a helmet has been through classes, and tutoring on what "not to do". Sadly, many of them ignore it. If he was any Joe Boozer, should he suspended from his job for a year? No. That's what the courts are for. But he was invited to be part of a special "club" The club has rules, if he breaks a rule, he should be penalized. Stallworth pled guilty almost immediately, and actually approached the family about a settlement without having to be taken to court. Those are the hallmarks of a man who is genuinely remorseful for what he's done. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if he was suspended for a couple of games, but I wouldn't be horrified if he wasn't. Umm, isn't that what I said? He could have used his vast resources to drag the thing out for a couple years, especially the settlement and ended up paying not very much except for Lawyerin' Fees. Not at all what you said. He removed any risk on his part. The way you say it sounds like he threw himself on the mercy of the court and then approached the family about settling. He went through a very calculated set of steps to minimize the damage to himself in all aspects. Is it smart? hell yes! Is it right? hell no! If you or i were in the same situation we would be staring 2-15 in the face and that's a fact. He bought his debt to society. No, he couldn't let the lawyers drag it out forever because it would have drug his suspension out at the same time. Letting it drag out through the normal process would have only hurt him. And the last thing you want to do is be a rich guy letting a jury of poor Cubans decide what you should pay for killing one of their own. ;) Back on topic [sm_devil] it will be interesting to see how Goodell handles this. If I were in his shoes, having done what he did, I like to think I'd not have ducked responsibility. But I'd also have approached the family about a settlement and gotten them to sign off on both the financial and penal aspects. Before entering any criminal plea. That's just self-preservation -- sure, he did the deed, but I don't see the requirement for seppuku.
