Title: Now I'M DRUNK....
Post by: MFAWG on March 13, 2007, 06:01:41 PM

'Rehab is for quitters' is my motto.... ;)

Good day, though:

Napped until noon, 1:30 lesson, played nine then a few drinks.

If you want amusement, take a lesson and then go STRAIGHT to the first tee. HILARIOUS!!!!!

No no no. You've got it backwards.

Drink, play 9, lesson and then nap. Maybe not as hilarious though.

Maybe I should rephrase;

'Didn't get out of bed until noon', etc, etc, etc.... ;D

Anything in particular that was so hilarious?

The driver I blocked into the tree on the first tee, and then the 4 dead shanks IN A ROW I hit with GW, 8i, 9i and PW respectively do it for ya.

Of course then I got it together and went par-bogey-bogey-par (wet) bogey...

That is funny, though. ;D

4 in a row? :o That will hurt your score. ;) :D

Four shanks in a row.  Talk about snake-bit.

I've had four whiffs in a row, but thats not as bad a four shanks.

I understand this fully as I took a lesson then attempted to play 18.  I quit after 9.  You have SO many thoughts going through your head after the lesson that you overthink on the course.  The multiple drinks are necessary after playing.

A handful of days before I was to play my very first round with a partner at the firm where I was clerking, I went to the range, got two 100-ball buckets, and set myself up on the grass area.  Then proceeded to shank fully half of the first bucket.  Nearly hit another guy with one (or more).  Left the remaining half-bucket there, returned the other one for credit, got in my car and drove away as fast as possible.

(Thankfully, they were gone when I warmed up pre-round that weekend.  IIRC, shot 38 to his 37 on the front -- hard course, too -- then we both melted down with 52 and 51, respectively, on the back.)

The thing about shanks is that they're so unpredictable.  They'll jump up and bite you at the worst possible time.  And then you're totally psyched out for the rest of the round.

When I had those four consecutive whiffs, the ball was snuggled up to a tree trunk between two roots. I was forced to hit the damn thing left-handed but it didn't work too well.  The funny thing is, I shoot left when I play hockey so I thought there wouldn't be any problem.  Not so.

shanks usually (in my experience watching/playing...)...    standing too close and/or hips/arms out of synch

Not guilty on the first (My tendency is to do the opposite due to my expanding 40 something mid section) but spot on on the second.

We had been working on keeping the hips more level during the downswing, and I was having a little (okay, ALOT) if trouble executing the weight transfer...

I remember you doing a perfectly executed 'backhander' on a sunny day in Jockland.

 :)

Yeah I remember that shot out of the gorse.  Now I'm batting .200 in backhand attempts.
