Title: Bollocks to that!!
Post by: twoiron on March 27, 2008, 01:52:01 PM
"An archer has achieved a one-in-a-million feat of marksmanship after splitting one arrow with another. What makes the shot even more remarkable is that Tilly Trotter is blind. The 74-year-old grandmother pulled off the shot, known as a "Robin Hood", in Somerset".

If those crazy dudes from Mythbusters couldn't do it, and deemed it "Busted", how can some blind woman do it?

Either way, if she couldn't see it, how would she know.

I think someone's having a lend of her...

BS on the odds.  I'd wager with someone of even competent archery skill the shot is 10000/1 at most for a 50 yard shot.
I've done it several times.  (not intentionally-- arrows are expensive!) . nothing worse than having a perfectly good arrow splinter in half and the fletchings obliterated.

or are you talking about the "actually symmetrical cleaving" down the shaft?

I did see the Mythbusters episode for this one.

Wooden arrow split in half the full length was the objective. Pretty compelling evidence that it could not be done. Even shooting the arrow through a tube to align it.

What appears to happen is the second arrow follows the grain and exits prior to the end of the first arrow.

IIRC.
