Then I went to the used club section, and I heard a song in my head!

Lo and behold, there's a set of original Raptures, black dot, steel shafts for 239.99. I mean, what are you going to do?

They're a 'Stiff' shaft, but  few minutes in the launch monitor thingy with them calmed my fears about that: I'm 5 or 10 yards longer on a 5 or 6 iron than I am with my aging TM's. A live range session confirms that they're either very, very close or a little longer through the bag, and I busted a couple of 3 irons a legit 195 with range balls. I can't even hit my TM 3 irons.

So, merry Christmas to me, Ho's!

 [sm_thumbsup2]  Merry Christmas indeed!

I learned to play on an old set of Pings when I was a kid.  Even recently when I demoed a new Ping iron, the look and feel made it seem like hitting an old friend.  Given an unlimited budget, I'd probably be playing ping irons.

I'll see how they play Friday. I almost walked when I saw they were a stiff, but the clubfitter guy said if I was buying new he'd offer me stiff but wouldn't talk me out of regular. I'm right on the line at 80 mph on a 5 iron. I suspect the Rifles in the Taylor's were making life harder than it really needed to be as well.

The other nice thing is I can now set up a completely playable B bag with the TM's, that Cally 3wood and other assorted odds and ends, which is nice.

My wedges look kind of funny now, but they're pretty set.

Of course, you can't play new irons in a bag that's got a couple of pretty obvious duct tape repairs going, so I just picked up a new Ping 4-Under for a 100 bucks.
