Title: My first Close Encounter of the golfhos kind
Post by: spacey on March 10, 2007, 08:08:56 PM
I took our good friend Campy up on his "Pay It Forward x2" offer. (Holy *goshdarn* *feces*! A Titus Racer X, are you *feces*ting me?  :o )

So I drove up to Evanston today to pick up the bike and met Campy at his pub. I had a few Sierra Nevadas and a Buffalo Chicken sandwich, but more importantly spent 3 hours talking to my new friend. (In true golfhos fashion, we only spent about 20 minutes talking about golf.) Not only did I make a new friend and pick up a really sweet bike in the process, but I was also very pleased to learn that I'm not a geek. (If only he really knew.) ;D

Anyone who finds themselves in Evanston, Wyoming I strongly recommend you stop into Jack's River Pub (soon to be just River Pub, apparently) and tip back a few with the proprietor. Tell him spaceage sent you. It might not be any good, but it's worth a try.

Anyway, cheers to one of the good guys.  [sm_beertoast] [sm_buddies]

My pleasure meeting you Matt, you are even more pleasurable in person than online.  My wife even made the comment as such.

Thanks for not mentioning the quiet time we spent in the kitchen...I don't guess these folks would "get" it.

From Bountiful, Utah to Evanston, Wyoming is about 85 miles. About 75 minutes worth of driving.

That's not too bad.  Maybe you guys can tee it up midway sometime. [sm_thumbsup2]

Ironically, midway is, well, Midway, UT.

Four of the best courses in No. Utah.  Five if you like the Homestead which I do not.

I guess we'll see how the golfos-ryder cup thing works, but I would love to have Spacey & Uisce up to play a round, and go down there to their favorites and play a round.

It's Cool.
I know.  It's good.  We're all friends here.

On Topic.
Sweet! [sm_thumbsup]  I can't wait 'til I can get around (or vice versa) and meet some of you guys.  I'm hoping Cleavage makes it up here this Summer.

spacey, congrat.s on the bike.  campy, Karma!  Very nice gesture.  Would love to head out west someday, and make the loop.

I spent all morning with the bike, but oddly I haven't actually ridden it yet. Gave it a good wash, tuned the shifters/brakes, put new grips (of the locking variety- the only way to go) and tires on it (Panaracer Smoke/Dart combo- Old school bitches). I'll probably take it for a short spin later, but I'm afeared of damaging the shocks by riding them before I get a chance to rebuild them (should have the wipers/seals tomorrow or tuesday).

Well, it was only the middle of the afternoon. I was on my way back to Salt Lake by 5:30, so anything could have happened after I left.

So, Number one;  You seem to have had some time.  Tell us, how does she operate?

Have you made the necessary adjustments?

I finally got the forks rebuilt and took it for a spin last night. I discovered a few things that I needed to give some attention, so I spent some time this evening tweaking the brakes and fine tuning the shifters a bit. I also took the rear suspension apart and replaced and lubricated the seals. I'm still getting the suspension dialed in, but at this point I'm probably over-analyzing it.

You have no idea how nice this bike is. Honestly, I had no idea how nice this bike is. Super plush, climbs like a rigid tail. It's almost as light as a roadie and handles like a sports car but feels as solid as a tank. I've never had XTR components, but I'm beginning to understand what all the fuss is about. I could go on but I have to go "spend some quality time" looking at the bike. Be assured that I'm extremely pleased, in spite of being way overdrawn at the International Bank of Karma.
