Title: Off to Costco
Post by: spacey on December 23, 2006, 08:52:01 AM
Have some sudden, last minute Christmas shopping to finish. I was really hoping to not have to go anywhere today.  :sad3:

Luckily the liquor store is right next door, so I can stock up while I'm out. Wish me luck.

It's odd.  The Costco we go to most often sells beer, and wine.  The newest/nicest one sell beer, wine, and booze.

Back already. Wasn't nearly as bad as I expected.

Costco here can sell beer (3.2%) but no wine or liquor. Can't even buy wine at the grocery store, it must all be purchased at your friendly neighborhood State Owned Monopoly Liquor Store.

Whereas in Greece, you can buy beer at the newsstall and alcohol at the grocery store or the confectioner's store.... Ah, the memories!

Pennsylvania... only restaurants/bars sell booze (if they have a liquor license) a few can apply for a special license that lets them sell unopened six packs...   otherwise , you gotta buy at state run stores.

this really pissed me off for a long time until I realized the great deals on wine it affords.   the tradeoff is that if its not on the state 'buy list'  you don't get it.  and that if the stores are closed, you're screwed till tomorrow (whereas in texas you could go find another store...) With the recent reinvigoration of pittsburgh though, and trying to make an upscale neighborhood out of a urban renovation area, they have a flagship  'luxury' item store and hopefully this will take off and cause other locations to improve.   we routinely get wines that go for $50+ back home in texas for  $20.   volume purchasing power.

I was in the B'Ville liquor store yesterday.  Very handy access from I-15 south but the tradeoff is in the small inventory.  Still, they did have Tanqueray and a couple bottles of Firestone and that's all I needed.   [sm_drinking]

Off to Toys R Us in a bit.

Toys for Tots time.

They don't sell booze either.

It's rather shortsighted.

They'd probably sell a lot more toys if they did.
