Title: Do you do any impressions?
Post by: dystopia on August 01, 2007, 02:16:52 PM
So I've got this crazy long commute every day.  Now I could do something useful like listen to foreign language cds in the car, but today I found myself working on a Jim Rome impression for an hour.  Then I realized that some of the better voice impressions in my arsenal are woefully outdated (Andrew Dice Clay, Deiter from Sprockets, Barney Gumbel, William Shatner, Monty Burns...)

Do you guys do any impressions/impersonations be they voice or physical (arnold palmer golf swing, Elvis on stage, CC Sabathia's delivery, etc.)

I have one friend that does a killer Mick Jagger performance at the drop of a hat and another that does a great Axl Rose, but needs to be egged on.

It doesn't matter if it only shows up after 5 beers or you only break out the impression in front of your spouse (who says it sucks), whatcha got?

I have a few that appear various times.

I do a pretty good Dana Carvey version of Bush Sr.  You know the "Not gonna doit, wouldn't be prudent in this juncture..."  Outdated as well I know.

I also have been known to bust out a great Mr. T.  I pitty the po fool.  Mr T says study hard in schoo

My best impersonation that my wife actually thinks is funny is of Ms. Lift (Anne Ramsey) Owen's mother from Throw Momma from the Train.  Owen I want a pepsi.  *goshdarn* classic.

Ah, I'll have to stop imagining you delivering your movie quote posts in character. (which is probably for the best since I still haven't seen Snatch, Super Troopers, etc.  :-[)

I have the uncanny ability to call up a nearly perfect movie or TV quote for any circumstance under almost any amount of pressure, but my impressions are generally pretty weak.

If you're goofy and you have a young child, you start doing lots of voices.  So yeah, I have a few.

I generally quote Josey Wales at work:

'Cause I got nothin' better to do'

Or I'll pull out a wrench or something, hand it to one of the guys, take it back and say:

'Oh, it ain't for usin', it's just for lookin' at' (Chief Dan George with his rock candy)

'Endeavor To Persevere' comes out alot as well.

I haven't had occasion to use:

'You boys gonna pull them pistols, or just whistle Dixie?'

yet, but I have used:

''Reckon these gentlemen will be ready to discuss some business after they're through?'

before.

Yup. I found myself doing Krusty the Clown the other day for my 11 year old niece. I have quite a bit that I can fall on at any given time, usually after a few beers...why just last night I started to do "Rochester" at a Mariners game just the "Yessir Mister Benny", and then I got really self conscious, I really meant nothing by it. But I got the look.  ::)

We've gotten to dang PC.

My dad works with impressions every day.

Of course, that would be mouth impressions for dentures....

Are these original creations or voices based on whatever the kids are into these days (Barney, Elmo, Howdy Doody, Dora/Diego...)

Walken!  That's great.  I have a friend who does a great Walken impression.  Comes in handy in many situations.  Plus, mimicking Christopher Walken kind of reminds me of William Shatner in that even if you lay it on too thick it's just as funny (or even funnier). ;D

Are you sure it's not the neighbor's dog?

That Pekingese next door tells me to do all sorts of weird *feces*....

A good friend of mine does a fantastic Joe Cocker.  Or is it Fred Sanford?

Either way, he's *goshdarn* spot on.

Yes.  Male/female, real/cartoon, doesn't matter.  I'm a voice ho.
