SALT LAKE CITY - Getting into a bar in Utah is now as simple as showing a bouncer a valid ID.

For 40 years, Utah required customers to fill out an application, pay a fee and become a member of a private club before they were allowed to set foot in a bar.

On Wednesday, those requirements were eliminated in an effort to boost the state's $7 billion-a-year tourism industry and make the state appear a little less quirky to outsiders.

I still have two membership cards laying around here somewhere. I think they were both 7 day passes or some such thing.

Too bad they finally got around to this about a decade after I quit really going to bars.

Sounds like the process of gambling in Oklahoma on native lands.  But we can play hold 'em and black jack 15 minutes outside of okc at a pretty nice casino, so worth it IMO.

Dude, nobody that has ever called Pennsylvania 'Home' can bitch about anybody else's nonsensical liquor laws.

Ever.

We're bad, but not quite as bad as Utah "was." [sm_shock]

I don't club much (at all?) but rumor has it some places are continuing the memberships voluntarily.  Allows them some leeway in other areas.

Our laws suck if you're visiting but a breeze if you live here.  It's all about knowing the system.

Man what kind of world do we live where a guy can't waltz into a joint and sidle up to a tall beer, and the game no questions asked?

Tall one?  A million places.

Short one?  There's the problem.
