Title: Re: ALCS - Detroit/Oakland (spoiler) Post by: spacey on October 10, 2006, 07:15:48 PM Just turned it on. Looks like bad news so far for A's fans. :o
Title: Re: ALCS - Detroit/Oakland (spoiler) Post by: dystopia on October 10, 2006, 10:13:17 PM damn, just got home. I was in a realtor's office all night. This is the game that I thought had the best pitching matchup for the A's. [sm_confused1]
Title: Re: ALCS - Detroit/Oakland (spoiler) Post by: GimC on October 11, 2006, 08:05:02 AM Being a Tigers' fan, of course I thought it was a great game. ;)
The Tigers' did to Oakland exactly what they did to the Yankees: (1) They got key hits with men on base, and (2) shut down the other team's offense with excellent pitching. I haven't told you you yet G, Congrats. The Tigers played a hell of a season. They deserve what they are getting in the post season. The twins played a great second half, and what they did, deserves great accolades, but they were not a stong enough team for the post season, and got exposed. Should be a great series. Title: Re: ALCS - Detroit/Oakland (spoiler) Post by: spacey on October 11, 2006, 08:44:36 AM I don't have a horse in this race (probably leaning Detroit, only because they've been so bad for so long) but I am absolutely stunned that with as abysmal as they are at hitting with runners in scoring position that the A's have made it this far. I haven't really followed the A's much (more of a NL fan) but they must have some pretty remarkable defense, in spite of their performance last night, in order to have made it to the ALCS.

It's nice that my team has finally given me something to root for. The drought just makes this all the sweeter. In general, Detroit (the city) has had a lot of successful teams recently (championships in the NHL, NBA and WNBA, and possibly one in MLB). Now if only we could get the Lions to not suck! Title: Re: ALCS - Detroit/Oakland (spoiler) Post by: dystopia on October 13, 2006, 11:42:23 AM I didn't get to follow much of the first two game (rough week - new website released at work and selling a house at home), but I like the A's chances today. [sm_fingersx] [sm_anon] You'd better hope they can pull one out. Tigers are on a tear so 3-0 pretty much assures a pennant. FWIW, I'm predicting Mets & Tigers in the Series. Take it to the bank. Title: Re: ALCS - Detroit/Oakland (spoiler) Post by: dystopia on October 13, 2006, 01:49:24 PM Oh, I forgot this game started already. [sm_oops]
Title: Re: ALCS - Detroit/Oakland (spoiler) Post by: dystopia on October 13, 2006, 01:52:10 PM Oy! 2-0 Detroit already, bottom 1st.
Title: Re: ALCS - Detroit/Oakland (spoiler) Post by: GimC on October 13, 2006, 02:09:19 PM It's amazing how good the Tigers are at getting hits when it counts (i.e. when men are on base).
They just picked up where they left off in Oakland. Title: Re: ALCS - Detroit/Oakland (spoiler) Post by: dystopia on October 13, 2006, 03:12:44 PM Yeah, the Tigers have been steamrolling almost the entire playoffs.
[sigh] 3-0 now. I bet Harden will be pulled sometime in the 6th. Title: Re: ALCS - Detroit/Oakland (spoiler) Post by: GimC on October 13, 2006, 04:36:08 PM How about that Kenny Rogers pitching another shutout? Unbelievable.
Title: Re: ALCS - Detroit/Oakland (spoiler) Post by: dystopia on October 13, 2006, 04:39:36 PM Wow, the A's were held to only 2 hits. :'(
The Tigers are a juggernaut no doubt. Title: Re: ALCS - Detroit/Oakland (spoiler) Post by: spacey on October 13, 2006, 06:12:54 PM Well, we can start saying it now: The Tigers win the Pennant! The Tigers win the Pennant! The Tigers win the Pennant!
Title: Re: ALCS - Detroit/Oakland (spoiler) Post by: dystopia on October 14, 2006, 04:20:07 PM 3-3 top 8th. c'mon A's. [sm_eekdance]
Title: Re: ALCS - Detroit/Oakland (spoiler) Post by: dystopia on October 14, 2006, 04:24:01 PM wtf, 12 straight balls to load the bases with walks. [sm_shock]
Title: Re: ALCS - Detroit/Oakland (spoiler) Post by: dystopia on October 14, 2006, 04:29:07 PM Rats, inning over, left 'em stranded.
Title: Re: ALCS - Detroit/Oakland (spoiler) Post by: dystopia on October 14, 2006, 05:03:22 PM Congratulations Tigers. Made it look easy.
Title: Re: ALCS - Detroit/Oakland (spoiler) Post by: Aske on October 14, 2006, 08:01:15 PM jeebus, a's got smacked like red-headed stepchildren
Title: Re: ALCS - Detroit/Oakland (spoiler) Post by: dystopia on October 14, 2006, 10:26:30 PM I think Detroit might just roll through whoever emerges from NL, too. Neither the A's nor the Yankees were as bad a team as the Tigers made them look.
