Too bad McCain decided to kiss and make up with Robertson and Falwell - I could have supported him.

I realize the article only addressed social issues.  But if the 'party' is going to define itself by one that has such views on immigration and gay rights - and you cannot be one of them if you don't share those views... I'll continue to be a former republican.

Having recently decided to forsake figs P&R, I'll not get too deeply into the discussion except to say that in my opinion (or maybe it's just my hope) that the party that first finds its way back to the middle will be end up the party with real staying power in the 21st century.

I was wondering how long you would last. I can't remember the last time I checked in there, but when I have it usually takes about 30 seconds before I read something that is so profoundly stupid that my head explodes and I lose hope for mankind.

Yup, my hands are washed clean of it. I even canceled my access so I won't be tempted to peek. I decided I don't like the person that place makes me, and even more it makes me not like the people who make me that person. I'm sure the feces flinging will continue just fine without me.

I get along just fine.  I check in about once a week, hardly ever post - see... easy.

I envy your ability to be so restrained. As a person who loves to discuss issues and loves even more to debate them, more often than with which I am comfortable I find myself falling victim to the fact that some would simply rather argue. My own shortcoming, I freely admit, but I'm really just better off without access, as I cannot always trust myself to do and say the intellectual and/or mature thing. (Besides, the place just hasn't been the same since my #1 sycophant bailed a while back.)

It wasn't 'Sycophant', it was 'Butt Buddy'  ::)

And that thread was a clubhouse thread, because right wing BS is OK in The Clubhouse on FIGS, but left wing BS is relegated to PandR, which is a forum that has more than outlived it's usefulness.

Oddly, now that I've had my access pulled, I notice how little actually goes in the rest of the forum, and am forced to ask:

'Is 15.00 clams a quarter really worth it just to post the odd pic of Richard Petty'?

As far as the GOP, McCain, Giuliani, and Romney will ALL spend the next year assuring 'The Base' that they really didn't mean all those things they said.

Actually I was talking about my sycophant Persimmon. I'll always think of you as "butt buddy."  ;) [sm_devil]

I could have played a much better role as 'nemesis' to you guys if it wasn't for all the kooky fringe nut bags spouting off (or, uh.. plagiarizing) all the time.

Nah, you're far too reasonable and (dare I say it?) moderate to be a good foil to my rampaging liberalness.
