Title: Roadies?
Post by: stroh on January 01, 2010, 11:04:51 AM
Roadies: (n) (pl)  (En) An alcoholic beverage taken and meant for consumption during a motor vehicle commute.

When I was younger it was S.O.P.   "You guys ready?  You got one?  Got yours?  Need one?  All right, let's take off."
Highly illegal of course (at least in the states I resided in.  Read:  Not Texas ) But hell, so was most of the other stuff we did as well.

Even later after Karen and I were together in the early 90's, it was still common practice.  We'd take off from or place to head to someone's house and Karen would say "You want one for the road?"  So, we would drive along, beer in hand like it was a Coke from McDonald's.  Just what we did.

Well needless to say, as the years went by it just didn't happen anymore.  Not smart to begin with, but for other obvious reasons.....it's not even a thought any longer to "take a roadie."

Fast forward to modern times.  My new buddy.  The guy I met, golfed with several times, hung out, went to the casino with, etc.

We took off in his car the other day to hit the casino and he grabbed a beer for the ride.  Driving along, like it was Starbuck's coffee.

Oh, it brought back memories.

Any of ya'll used to take roadies?

You should never drink and drive. You could hit a bump and spill it.
