Title: How to get into FGI Post by: APTech on January 08, 2007, 05:56:27 PM Go to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and look for a file called "hosts". Change the filename to something like "hosts.old" and restart. IIRC, this file stores the dns info for websites and sometimes does not get updated with new dns info.

Of course, if you actually use /etc/hosts for anything this approach might cause countless other problems. [sm_fingersx] Title: Re: How to get into FGI Post by: Seamus on January 09, 2007, 08:33:17 AM I still can't get in, and I can't change the thing that says hosts, not sure that I want to anyway.
Frustratin'. Seriously...what's going on? Title: Re: How to get into FGI Post by: Clive on January 09, 2007, 08:51:02 AM It took a machine restart before I could get in today.
Title: Re: How to get into FGI Post by: TFT on January 09, 2007, 08:54:40 AM I found the post that rsvman made on the subject pretty disturbing/telling/sad.
One of those. Or more. Title: Re: How to get into FGI Post by: dyno on January 09, 2007, 09:08:13 AM I only visited to give Mfag a shot in the head. Pretty good. LOL So how'd that go anyway? [sm_fingersx] Title: Re: How to get into FGI Post by: Aske on January 09, 2007, 09:12:04 AM :o

Yeah, I saw that, too. And coming from a mod that sees what goes on behind the scenes, it had an ominous ring to it. Title: Re: How to get into FGI Post by: Seamus on January 09, 2007, 09:38:00 AM I've deleted browsing history.
I've deleted cookies. I've restarted my PC three times now. Still no luck. Go ahead and tell me I'll never be able to attack RickB again, it's ok, I can take it. Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Title: Re: How to get into FGI Post by: Seamus on January 09, 2007, 09:40:53 AM I found the post that rsvman made on the subject pretty disturbing/telling/sad. One of those. I forgot the name of the parallel forum. Pretty much figured FGI was history. Assuming you have windows, have you tried opening up this file in notepad: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\HOSTS then adding this line to the bottom: 67.15.83.238 www.freegolfinfo.com then save it and try your browser again? (note that if you do this, you should probably remove that line in a couple of days when things get back to normal) Title: Re: How to get into FGI Post by: stroh on January 09, 2007, 09:56:03 AM I've deleted browsing history. I don't think I should go into hosts file, etc, and change/save stuff here at work. If I screw it up the IT guys will have me, and my work posting days will be over. It'll fix itself. You're right, if you're not comfortable messing with the hosts file and/or it's not your machine you're asking for trouble. Oh, and for you other jokers, here's a self-portrait. :punchballs: Title: Re: How to get into FGI Post by: Uisce Beatha on January 09, 2007, 10:52:17 AM I believe you. Usually set to 24 hours but it's completely up to the hostmaster. |
