Title: I'm kinda sad...
Post by: E-A-G-L-E! on August 31, 2007, 08:17:24 PM
As of September 4th, Gander Mountain is becoming a warehouse, like Sportsman's Guide.  No more shopping through the aisles.  Just walk in, head to the counter, order what you want, pay, and walk out with it.  I've always enjoyed browsing the aisles, looking for nothing in particular.  It's an interesting store.  And quite a few times, while just planning to spend a few moments relaxing, I've found something to give to someone else.  Catalogs just aren't the same.  :(

On the bright side, they have some good deals right now. :D

Whew!
I thought this was going to be family related, and not in a good way.

On topic I send you my condolences.

Sorry for the scare.  I think if anything happened to someone in my family, I'd be just a tad bit more than kinda sad, though.

And thanks, going to Gander Mountain just won't be the same. *sigh*

You probably don't remember when Gander Mountain was the king of duck supplies as far as catalogs went...I used spend my teen years flipping through that catalog wanting everything in there while trying to keep it quite from my non-hunting friends...I was supposed to be a bad ass anarchist.

Do you have a link? I couldn't find anything. My nephew works for Gander Mountain and I haven't heard about this at all.  [sm_dontknow]

I'm not doubting you but I find this hard to believe that they would change the format of their stores so radically. I found this press release on their website:

God I hope that did not come across as anything other than I was a poser in my younger years...I dressed and acted "all that" but my roots were more redneck than the Berkeley I tried to portray.

I'm confuesd too.  They just opened one here in Blaine less than a year ago.

So, you're saying it's a store, but you can't shop around?  You just walk up to a counter and tell them what you want?  Kinda like NAPA?

Yep, not all the Gander Mountain stores though, they said they are just testing it out on a few locations.

When I posted the OP, I thought it was multiple locations.  But I guess it's just the Maplewood location as a test-drive.  Still, I don't think we'll be heading off to Gander Mountain any time soon - not like we used to anyway - as it will now be at least a 20 minute drive.  When I had yarn to purchase or some other craft thing, or a library book to pick up, we used to be able to stop in for a few minutes.  Not anymore, though.  *sigh*

Yeah, I had been wondering why they would change them all to warehouses.  I hear the new one in Blaine is supposed to be huge and really nice - like a downscale of Cabelas.

And, yeah, that's what I'm saying.  You walk in, head to the counters, browse inventory by computer, order it, they bring it to you, you purchase and walk out.

I'm rather hoping they don't like the results.  But I guess it's a response to all the online purchasing that's being done.  If it goes over big, well, I don't want to think about that.
