Title: Re: linux admin stupidity 101 Post by: hobbit on January 16, 2008, 09:32:00 AM LOL - I haven't done that one before
Years ago when I was a new admin for a NIS/NFS configuration (about 50+ SGI workstations) - the first thing I did was modify the prompts on each workstation so we knew which one we were logged into while executing commands. This was all started by witnessing a co-worker shutdown the server thinking he was on a new workstation we were setting up. Nothing like having the entire engineering department posse seeking to place your head on a pike [sm_shock] Title: Re: linux admin stupidity 101 Post by: Torpedo on January 16, 2008, 09:38:02 AM when you set up an nis/nfs client box and try to login to it via ssh make sure you have tcsh installed if your login account uses tcsh :punchballs: :yield: [sm_anon] Will do. Nothing like having the entire engineering department posse seeking to place your head on a pike [sm_shock] the funny thing is I told my coworker early on i thought it was a shell problem of some sort (since outgoing ssh worked, nfs mounts were in place, local nis logins worked, etc) but we bothered going through a thorough debugging , ssh reinstall, etc.... for at least an hour before getting down to trying shell changes ;D but yeh, you should see my command line prompts [sm_shock] Title: Re: linux admin stupidity 101 Post by: stroh on January 16, 2008, 09:55:15 AM ... you should see my command line prompts [sm_shock] Does that line ever work?
