Title: Who generates these things
Post by: MFAWG on April 21, 2007, 02:52:24 PM
From my bulk mailbox this AM

Subject:

nymphomania escutcheon fungi

That's like the greatest random combination of words...

My junk mail folder collects tons of stuff like that.  Those bizarre word combinations just scream, "DELETE ME!."  If I was a spammer I would try to come up with something more enticing and intelligent.

Oh, I ain't opening it, but go ahead and say:

Nymphomania Escutcheon Fungi (is it it Fungeee, Fungeye, or Foonjee or Foonjii?)

out loud, and it just sounds hilarious.

From now on, that's my standard non-sequitur response to everything....

Interestingly enough, I haven't received a single spam in months.  Nothing even lands in my bulk mail folder anymore.  8)

I believe someone, somewhere is cracking down on the origination side (.ru and .cn come to mind).  One of my accounts is tagged as tech contact on a thousand or so domains so it's "out there" as far as harvesting goes.  I used to get roughly 2000 SPAMs per day and it's now down to about 400.  They're all filtered with incredible accuracy and efficiency (thanks Thunderbird) so the number doesn't really matter but it's interesting how much it has decreased.

I found the best way to avoid it is to have stopped checking my email.

Lovely.
