This is kind of a weird question, but I just wanted to throw the idea out there and see what people thought.

Would there be any interest in a section of the forum that is only viewable by logged-in members?  The reason I'm asking is because I can see how some people might not be comfortable posting personal/private info like names of family members in threads like "For whom were you named" or personal history stuff in "Would you" when they're viewable by the public and indexed in the search engines.

On the one hand, I like the idea of the forum being open and welcoming and not closed and cliquish, but I also understand a desire for a more private members' section since we also talk about family stuff  or post pictures, and might not want that stuff out there for the world to see.

I don't really have a preference, but thought it was worth bringing up.

Sounds like an ok idea, but then again we can all just not divulge private information over t3h interwebs.

If you don't want Golfhos to "appear" cliquish, then create the section, but don't link to it from anywhere. It will be like a "double secret" section that you can only access if you happen to know the URL (which you'd PM to all of us except for the clinically paranoid stroh). Of course, you'd PM the URL to me too, right? Right? Right?

Mainly, we'd just start threads where we'd speak of how our forum is the best evar.  That would have to be in the charter.  Violators to be shot at dawn.

I think it's a good idea actually especially with Gleek's adjustment.  I thought about it last night when I was posting my life history but couldn't stop myself.  I was in a sharing mood.

Oof, that's an even trickier problem.  If you have any ideas to fix that, fire away.

I just would hate to see a scenario where a GolfHo gets in a flame war with a random person on another forum (not necessarily fgi), and that person could track them back to here, kind of like Señor poopflingster did in another thread.  And that person could find info like names of kids or drug usage history or things like that.  This would have been more difficult with a section not indexed in the search engines.

Especially when there are sites like the Internet Archive which are crawling the Net and saving webpages forever.

I don't really know if it's a good idea or not.  I'm hoping that the idea is discussed/debated a little more, and, if it's determined that it's even worth pursuing, then we put it to a vote.

It's also possible that we could try it for a month, then decide it was a mistake, and get rid of it.

If we have it nobody is forced to use it.  I'd just throw it out there and see what happens.  Can't be any less traveled than As It Lies or the Swapshops.   ;)

To be honest, it'd be a good spot for all these posts people keep throwing at me exploring my gheyhoodiness.

If we had such a section, there is a strong possibility that a certain thread might have been more along the lines - "Here is a picture of my family jewells," along with the corresponding picture.  That just might be too much for members to handle. ;D
