Title: Now this is living.
Post by: Art Vandelay on May 07, 2007, 02:39:02 PM
Back in March my boss sent me on a one day raod trip that required me to get up at 3:00am and not get home until 11:00pm.  As a "thank you", he gave me a free pass for a day off at the time of my choosing, without being charged any PV.  I took it today.  The kids are at their grandparents.  My wife is working today, so it was just me.

Out of bed at my normal work time, as I wanted to get the most out of the day.  Perfect weather - warm, brillant sun and deep blue skies, light breeze, low humidity.  The kind of weather we almost never get in Pittsburgh  Out the door at 7:00am and off to a local eatery for a nice leisurely breakfast and some quality time with the sports page. Man, it was good!  Then off to South Park (yes, it's really called South Park), for a long trail walk.  Along the way i encountered a fox who popped out of the brush, oblivious to my presence, because he was stalking a pair of squirrels.  The squirrels got wise and scattered.  Then the fox noticed me.  He and I had a staring contest at about 20 yards as my mind raced trying to recall if a fox would come after a human. He apparently thought better of it and darted back into the brush.  Best possible ending for both of us.

After the walk, off to the range for a bucket of balls in the quiet of a weekday morning.

Then back to the park for about an hour of rollerblading.  Nice to see not too many people to have to maneauver around.  After that, hit a drive thru for lunch and found a nice, isolated corner of the park to eat.  Listened to the birds, watched the crittters, and basically veged out for a bit.  Then another trail walk to work off the lunch.

Now it's only approaching mid afternoon, so back to the range for another bucket.

Went home after that and visited porchville for a few.  Now waiting for the wife to get home as were going out to dinner.

I don't want to say that I'd make a good bum, but I could get used to this kind of living.  This day was just what the doctor ordered.  The unfortunate part is that by 8:30am tomorrow my job will have unraveled all of the good that today did for me.

Sorry for the long ramble....it was a good day. ;D

[sm_thumbsup]  Good for you.  Gotta love those days.  Being out and about on a weekday, when everybody else is working is a whole different world.

[sm_anon] Although, my target is to be sitting at the bar and soaking 23 ouncers by 11.  Not nearly as much park, and walking as yours, but enjoyable just the same.

Nicely done and fair play to your boss.

And don't belittle yourself.  I think you'd make a fantastic bum.

Did you run into any Steelers out and about (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2860426&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab1pos2)?

No Steelers, but there was a hulking bald guy receiving a golf lesson down the range who looked remarkably like Goldberg.

So does anyone know if a hungry fox will come after a person?

I do know the fox at Wingpointe are intrepid and relentless. Probably not so much from hunger as gluttony, they appear to be well fed.

Only if you are rich and near death.

Did you mean a fox, as in an animal not a gold digging 20-something Hollywood hottie? nevermind.
