Title: Turkey Weekend Plans?
Post by: MP on November 20, 2007, 03:06:07 AM
Hey guys, midterms are finally over and I have about 5 days before finals start so I figured I'd make an appearance  :-X

So what are your plans this weekend?  Post!

Me:

Wed night: class cancelled, so I'm throwing a kickback BBQ and poker night with some friends.  Will likely result in drinking games and the usual debauchery.

Thursday: Nothing during the day, will be going to my mother's for Thanksgiving dinner, the smallest Thanksgiving Dinner I've ever had to attend.  Me, my mom and her new husband.  (My sister and her family are away at their in laws).  At least that means lots of left overs for this starving college student.

Friday: Meeting up with my best friend from high school who now lives up north, so we only meet up during the holidays.  Bar hopping and yet more debauchery.

Saturday: Work night shift.  Might have some drinks with co workers after we close.  Sake bombs.

Sunday: Got invited out to some drinking and karaoke by a mutual friend (female) who I'm very interested in "getting to know" better....by that i mean.... well...you know.

Monday: Back to school  [sm_disgust]

Sweet!  Have fun, and enjoy MP.  [sm_beertoast]

Not a lot here.

Wed.  Work 'til 9p.

Thur. Easy day at home, cooking dinner, wife's brother and family coming over in afternoon.  Eat, football, beer, etc.

Fri.  Work.

Sat. Work.

Sun. Hopefully sit around and watch football, but I'm sure that will get preempted.

Thursday...get up early and drive 4 hours to in-laws in Roanoke.  A lot of family will be there. Watch Fball games.

Friday...pick up our new puppy in Roanoke.  It's actually a puppy that was rescued from a Puppy Mill.  Owner was busted w/ over 1200 puppies on his property.
Black Friday shopping.

Saturday...Relax.

Wed:  Probably leaving work a little early then hanging out with the family and motoring around.

Thurs:  Off to Chickasha, USA for Thanksgiving at the in laws.  I think I can get out of hunting since it will be freezing and my brother is coming into town.  First Thanksgiving without my parents around as they are vacationing in D.C./NYC over the holidays.  Watching the packers win again then my brother and I are heading to Norman to catch a band a do a little boozin.

Fri:  No plans as of yet probably not do much.  No shopping that is for sure.

Sat:  Football

We (I)discovered late last week that we're hosting Thanksgiving this year, and that we'll have four people staying at our house.

Mon: worked 'til 11:45.  :sad3:  Go home to wife annoyed that I wasn't home earlier to help get the house ready.
Tue: work all day, then the tension of needing to work more and wife wanting me home to help.  Then work after she goes to bed, if it's before midnight.
Wed: work 'til maybe 4, then go home and be House Slave until she goes to bed and I can relax.  Probably around midnight again.
Thu: House Slave and/or Nanny, as dictated.
Fri: same as Thursday.
Sat: work.
Sun: spend the AM with the toddler, then maybe some football-watching or motorcycle-fiddling.

Don't forget the recently acknowledged GolfHos tradition of procuring new golf gloves for faraway destination golf excursions.  Shop up beeyatch.

Thursday is as much food as a body can take with an aunt and uncle and some cousins.

Friday is a double header - the Chili Scramble at my club during the day, and a poker tourney and drinks at a friends house in the evening.

So it's my fault nobody else read the memo?

I don't know, seems like there are too many rules in today's society.  Yet I just can't pull off the brooding rebel thing at all.  This is how people become alcoholics and cross-dressers IMHO.

Dew, bro to the max. Rock on, we're extreme.  I will probably have a couple of beers at home during the Packers game though.

Wed: Standard work day.

Thu: Depending on how ankle feels and weather looks, might go for a morning motorcycle ride. Football/dinner at the folks place with some extended family. Usually cocktails and boardgames afterwards.

Fri: No daytime plans yet. Getting together in the evening with a group of friends I don't see very often. Hilarity is sure to ensue, though the wife will disagree.

Sat: Ripping out a swamp (evaporative) cooler, getting ready for new windows to be installed.

Sun: Rest.

spacey, have you already got your motorcycle permit/license?  Have it from before?  Need one in Utah?

You're obviously off on Friday.  Do other people here have to request it off, or is it a given?
It has never been a given for me, I have always had to work the day after Thanksgiving.(health care).

What in the *fudge* is a swamp cooler?

Most businesses with office type environments I've worked for are off.  My wife's school is off friday as well.  When she was in retail she worked that friday of course.  I've never worked the day after Thanksgiving.

No *goshdarn* clue what a swamp cooler is though.

I had a motorcycle endorsement years ago, but I let it lapse, so I have to re-test with the DLD to get another. I'm currently riding on a temporary permit, based on successful completion of the written portion of the exam, until I'm comfortable enough with this big ass bike to go take the skills test. The alternative to taking the skills test on my bike is that I made an agreement with my wife to take a MSF course in the spring, of which successful completion will allow me to wave the skills portion of the endorsement test.

I am off friday, but it is not a paid holiday. It will count as a personal day, and I will be paid out of my PTO bank. I didn't have to "request" it off, so much as just schedule it on my calendar.

Evaporative air conditioner.  Good for something like 20* of cooling at our altitude and humidity.  Useless in a lot of places such as AZ (too hot) and the SE/East Coast (too humid).  Often upgraded to modern HVAC units these days.

Wow, completely disagree with the Wikipedia notion that a swamp cooler will work in Phoenix.  Maybe if you had one per room.  They just can't cool to 75* when it's 110* outside.  No way.

I agree. I find that ours works fairly effectively within the 70° to 85° range. Much hotter and it just makes the house muggy. This is precisely why we're scrapping it in favor of central air conditioning.

They do.  I just don't have any plans for those days. ;D

I purposely specified week [of] and not weekend.  I had plans for yesterday, today, and tomorrow, so I listed them.  I don't have plans for Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, so I didn't list them.  Simple as that. :D
