Title: I should quit after one.
Post by: Spanky on July 13, 2007, 02:30:18 PM
So played today with dad and son. We played a course called Leatherwood Ranch. It is a short 9 hole course, longest hole is 321 yds. First hole is a par3 and walked away with a par.

Now before I go any further let me explain a little about this course. The owner built it himself on some land he bought back in the 80's. He had heard that when building a course drainage was the most important thing in order to maintain good conditions. Since he didn't have the money to build greens like they do in big money projects he did the next best thing. Made all the greens with big slopes or in some cases dome shaped. These are not subtle slopes either. And this land was once a cow pasture and rock quarry.

So there are 3 par 3s and the rest are 4s. I was off and on all day. The worst part was I could not be on the entire hole, other side of the coin was I was not off an entire hole either. Hole 2 I shot 6 because I was under a tree. The next 7 holes I shot 5s. If I was on in 2 I three putt. If I take 4 to get there I sink the one putt. Amazing.

So my son who is 9 played well. His old clubs are too short and his new ones are too long. And he hits like Bonds, either a home run or a whiff. But we all enjoyed the round, had fun. No real complaints and my son was not frustrated at his game or worse me. We went out and just played, we let him hit and when it was bad, tee it up again. I don't think he will be another Tiger but he will be a playing partner in the future. I look forward to the day he out drives me.

Ditto!  What a day.  Bad (or better inconsistent golf) is nothing next to the company you kept.

Just remember, to keep him in golf, you need to badger him, berate him, force it down him, etc.

It's the only way you'll ever retire with a multi million dollar shoe endorsement.  ;)
