Title: RIP Minnie Driver (GOOD NEWS UPDATE)
Post by: Walfredo on August 14, 2008, 12:09:40 PM
:'(    This weekend my wife killed my Mini Cooper in a car accident.  Thankfully she is doing fine, which of course is all that really matters.  She just had quite a scare with some good bruises and a gash on her head.  She had to be taken to a hospital in an ambulance.  But she was released after a few hours.

The front right portion took the hit getting some serious body damage and the radiator and turbo charger are busted.  The insurance company hasn't given me the final word but they were already at $12,000 damage when we spoke yesterday.  They said it is probably a total loss.

And of course my wife is now afraid to drive one again so it looks like I'll have to get a new car.  It took the crash well from a occupant safety standpoint she is just gunshy of getting in one again due to the memories.  It being her first ever accident and all.

I really have no idea what type of car I want now.  She says, "something safe".  I'm leaning towards a Honda Element or Subaru Forrester but it's up in the air at the moment.

So what car would you Ho's get?

It looks like safety ratings on the Minis are actually pretty good.

The Element and Forester do rate slightly better.

Glad to hear your wife will be o.k. 'fredo.  :)

You can pick up monster SUV's pretty cheap these days.   [sm_shock] [sm_devil] ;)

BMW supposedly do well in crash protection.

Only accident I've ever been in was in a 325i, got T-boned by a drunk old lady one sunday morning while she was motoring a delta 88 through a red light, which spun me 360.  I was holding on for dear life.  Not even a scratch.

I hope she's back on her back soon, still able to copulate vigorously!  Give her my regards!!

Bummer  :'(

I'm still waiting for the local Saturn dealers to find me a blue Sky Redline - thats my next purchase, hopefully sooner than later.  8)

But its not practical as an only car (no storage space) - my alternative was actually a Mustang convertible (even though I'm not a Ford fan).

Wow.  VERY glad to hear she was OK, and hopefully they didn't find any of the "paraphernalia" that must have been shake-n-baking around in the car.

"Something safe"?  If she just had a major collision in a MINI and "walked" away, anything with the same crash ratings should fit the bill.

Both her and the car were "clean" so no worries there.   ;D  I try not to drive around  [sm_smoking], I'm not in college anymore.

She used to own a 325xi which was nice.  The mini really did take care of her well during the wreck.  She never really liked how it drove though and now she hates it.  Her car is a Lexus ES 350 and they are like night and day different.  I understand her not wanting another though and accept that.

If I buy merkan it will be an SUV.  They make good ones and my commute is only 1.5 miles so gas mileage isn't a huge concern.  Specially with all the discounts being offered.

Never thought I'd be looking for another car so soon.  I'll miss the poor girl.  She was fun.

Glad to hear she is OK. I so wanted to get one of those. Like others have said sounds to me like that one was pretty safe.

Good luck on your search.

Looks like the docs will be able to resuscitate Minnie Driver.   [sm_headbang]  The total damage is about 13k which is half what she is worth.  Glad I don't have to start over on the car search.  And Mrs Walfredo says she knows it's the best thing for us and she'll warm up to it again.  Thanks for the well wishes.

Going back to work now.   [sm_beertoast]
