Title: Jules sent me a message
Post by: geo1 on September 25, 2007, 09:52:35 AM
Jules asked why I was up so late.  Assuming she meant last night.  I could lie and say the wife and I were playing on our computers [sm_shock] ;D or tell the truth.  Wife and I were one of the lucky 400 to be selected to be able to drive into Denali National Park on Sept 14.  We were able to take some beautiful pictures of the colors in the park and I got about a hundred or so of a grizzly that was about 40 yards away to within 10 ft of me to crossing the road to standing up on hindlegs about 15 yards from me.  I took these photos while standing up through the sun roof on the SUV we had rented. We were not able to work on processing any of the photos until last night.  Relatives came into town and we hosted them until yesterday.  They were not interested in seeing any of the pics.

We take all of our pics in RAW.  I was using the Nikon D200 with 200 zoom lens while wife was using the Nikon D70 with wide angle lens.  Wife does the heavy lifting on the photos and does the processing of these things on her MAC.  While she works on them, she sends emails of some of the choice ones to me on to my MAC and I get to view them without disturbing her work.

I am one of those who enjoys using a puter but know little of how to do much.  So, if any of you are interested in seeing any of these pics, you will need to give me instructions on how to post them on this or any site.  I do know how to email them.  We have been retired for many years and have taken over 150,000 pics of our travels.  We enjoy scenery, wildlife, etc.  In fact, when we were in Florida earlier this year, one whole day was spent at the wildlife preserve that engulfs the Space launch center.  We took over a 1000 pics of the birds that day.  All were closeups.  We both admitted that in our youthful years we did not think much of "birding" but admitted that the day was hugely exciting.

So, in a way, wife and I were playing on the computer last night ;D

I'd love to see the grizzly photos especially.  I'm out of personal hosting options at the moment or I'd offer to help.  Maybe PhotoBucket.com or another free, image hosting site.

If geo1 is anything like me, he won't know how to use photobucket.  If I understand him correctly, he doesn't know anything about how to email or upload photo's.  There isn't anything wrong with that.  People like us have other interests and aren't really commited to all this computer fad stuff. ;D

Well, he uses a Mac so exporting a photo to disk from iPhoto is one click away.  Uploading to PhotoBucket is pretty easy too.  I believe in geo1.   [sm_fingersx]

If they were pröñographic, we'd all be looking at them by now.

It is a question of motivation.

I do know how to email photos to other email accounts.  I will look at photobucket and see if I can figure it out.  Once I load to fotobucket, then I post the url here?

Geo, how many images are we talking about uploading?

I have at least 100 or so that when clicked rapidly on a filmstrip, one can watch him walk up and beyond us.  Right now, I have about 10 or so that I have selected and will do a further review to see if that should be whittled down.  Of course, the photos mean more to me than the observer, so my opinion is jaded.  I have opened an account on photobucket and it has a button for uploading from mac and or Iphoto - don't remember which right now.

Another option if photobucket doesn't work out would be Flickr.
http://www.flickr.com/

Many of my friends who are into photography like to upload pictures there.  It's a nice community for sharing photos, one of my friends has had people contact him through there about buying his photos for magazines or book covers.

I got home from work, the house was empty, so I logged onto golfhos.  Usually it is just me, myself and the spiders here, but last night there was geo1, gleek and mp here!!!  I asked on the message board, but of course everyone ignored me, so I sent a message, and hey, I get an answer!!!! ;D ;D ;D

Well, I got 8 of them up there now.  I see that first one loads quickest.  It is the smallest pic.  Wonder if you will have trouble seeing the other 7.  I goofed up on them and loaded at much bigger size.

This is a first for me.  So hope the above works.  If it does, I will post a few more.  Of course, I clicked on the url and it worked but I don't know for other users.

#1065 is awesome - great shots, in general, but that one is just beautiful.  Love that you can see the expression on the bear's face, that plus the framing from the grasses/wildflowers.

That was also one of my favorites.  I also like 1043 where he is just loping along.

Incredible!

Looks like he/she was still quite young.

What no face close up shots.  ;)

I think the real question on everyone's mind is : Did they *feces* in the woods, or not?

Pretty sure it was a young one also.  Why else would it be smiling?  When it was on its hind legs, several of us thought it was over 6 ft and perhaps up to 7 ft tall.

I was ducking back into the car when it walked onto the road.  Got back up in time to get the hind end shot.  Got closer than I ever thought it would.

If I was that close I may not be able to answer if a bear *feces*s in the woods but I know I would be *feces*ting my drawers.

Great pics though.

Very cool. Saw a few black bear when I lived up there, but never that close.

I've been very close to a black bear.  'Course, it was dead.  I won't say why, but you could probably figure it out.  I will say bear is good eatin', though.  One of my faves actually.
