A worthy question.  The discussion of which always succumbs to a flamefest over the status of flip-flops.

Flip flops are not 'Shoes', but they are footwear. I own no flip flops, having opted for either Bite sandals or Hurley slipons in that department.

I have 4 pairs of flip-flops (yup, 4 pairs, bitches. How you like me now?)

2 pairs of motorcycle boots
3 pairs of Doc Marten boots
3 pairs of athletic shoes
2 pairs of Vans
2 pairs of Keens
2 pairs of Merrells

and probably 5 or 6 other pairs of miscellaneous shoes.
That's just off the top of my head. Is that more than 10?

Oddly enough, I wear the same pair of shoes pretty much every *goshdarn* day.

That's the rub. I could get rid of everything but the Hurley's, 1 pair of Chucks, Vans prison issues, 1 pair of 'Dress' shoes and be good .

I own so many pairs of shoes, it's disturbing.  I tallied them up a few years ago and it was embarrassing.

Off the top of my head, I can think of:

The main rotation is probably: flipflops, black casual shoes, running shoes, tevas.

Funny thing is , I'm a complete and utter fraud.  After this thread, I look around, and I got shoes everywhere.

My list is really no different than the ones above.  And not unlike spacey, it seems I wear the same fookin' pair every day.

1 pair Converse skate shoes (I bought these at Famous for 25 bucks with the Hurleys. That's 25 bucks for BOTH pairs)

1 pair Asics running shoes (like I run anywhere  ::))

2 pairs Bass loafers

1 pair black penny loafers (I use dimes, inflation and all)

1 pair Timberland walking shoes

1 pair Mechanix boots

1 pair Bite sandals

1 pair Dan Post elk skin cowboy boots (I'm thinking I've had these 20 years now. Can't bear to to get rid of them)

2 pairs work shoes
1 pair casual / trainer type shoe
1 pair thongs ("flip flops" in the rest of the world)
1 pair golf shoes
1 pair heavy duty boots for yard work
1 pair sandals

I have 8 or 9 pair, two of which are golf shoes, one is hiking/work boots, two are sandals, and one is baseball shoes.


I guess that makes me exquisitely hetero

less than a metro****ual and way less than a homer****ual

I have 4 pair of dress shoes (1 cordovan, 1 wingtip, 2 that are for sportcoats or bus casual hence less dressy than first two)

1 pair of actual tennis shoes for playing tennis

2 pairs of slip-on loafers

1 pair of running shoes

4 pairs of casual sport like sneakers of the puma/pf flyer variety


All of these survived a recent spring cleaning purge of old clothes and such, or this would have been much higher.

Do they size normal? Vans are always small to me, and Converse the opposite. Adidas also seem tight.

 A little tight is OK for skate shoes. I'm probably going to have to order online and I've had BAD lucj doing that before.

I'll check when I get home to be sure.  From what I recall, they are pretty true to size. 

I have the pf flyers in an 11.5.  This is the size I wear for pretty much all sneakers and tennis shoes.  I wear an 11 in dress shoes.  I'd say they err on the smaller side of that though and run a little narrow.  For instance, I wear 11.5 in addidas with no problems.  So if addidas are tight these may be as well.  Of course depending on your sock thickness ymmv.  Just do zappos with free shipping and free returns, you can't go wrong.

1 pair black dress shoes.
1 pair brown dress shoes.
1 pair sandals.
1 pair Merrills (technically, I don't have these, but I plan to buy them this weekend so I'll count them).

Who counts dedicated-use gear?  Seriously.  I have several pairs of old boxers currently in the laundry room for use as dusting rags -- should they count as apparel?  I have four socks in the shoeshine kit, too, but I don't count them as viable socks, either.

1 pair running shoes -- for RUNNING ONLY (3x/week).
1 pair motorcycle boots -- for MOTORCYCLING ONLY (~3x/week).
1 pair golf shoes -- for GOLF ONLY (~4x/year).
1 pair hiking boots -- for HIKING ONLY (~3x-year).
1 pair studded-sole flyfishing boots -- for WALKING IN RIVERS ONLY (not once in past four years).

I shall count my new KISS kicks as "dedicated use gear." To be used solely for ruling. (Actual time spent engaged in such to be determined, but I estimate it will be plenty.)
