Title: My letter of resignation is written........
Post by: PaunchyBald on September 24, 2007, 02:41:58 PM
It will be tendered tommorrow.

October 6th will be my last day of employment with Interstate Brands Corporation.  You know who they are without realizing it, Wonder Bread, Hostess Cake, Dolly Madison, Homepride, Beefsteak, Butternut, Merita, Holsum, and lots of others.

I'll have been there 19 years, 9 months, three weeks and a bit.

I'll start training for my new career on October 8th.

Hopefully, I'll beat receivership by a week or more.

Holy *feces* I'm kinda scared.

Ummm....because of my age and level of education, I have chosen to become a transport driver for hazardous materials.

The pay is good, the hours are a bit less than I work now, and I will get 2 consectutive days off.  I've not had that in the 31 years I've been working.

Yes, we're fortunate to have hired PB to transport our hazmat refuse from the Blader Industries, Inc. R&D subsidiary, and to deliver proprietary hazmat for our various manufacturing operations.

You can only imagine how dangerous all of this material must be and why we needed a true 'bona fide' for the job.  It's not "North Korea" dangerous, but if you were to ask if "it is like being on the Korean peninsula," I'd have to say you are getting warm.

I must admit, the fact that he enjoys golf chautauqua and has in his possession a copy of the secret formula for the Twinkie did factor into our hiring decision.

Letter of resignation means; 5 weeks 3 3/4 days of vacation pay, 3 3/4 days of personal time that I will be paid.  Can't leave that much money on the table.  'Specially, since I earned it.

Does the letter get it for you, or the part where you show up for two weeks after tendering said letter?

And what kind of hazardous materials are we talking about?  Hospital waste?  Radioactive waste?  Some say that, in your hands, golf clubs are hazardous materials.

Whatever it is, it can't be any more hazardous than his current cargo.

The part where I show up for 1 week after tendering said letter. :)  As for the hazmat, it will most likely be fuels.

I submitted the letter this morning.  3:05am.  I've been speaking with supervision and lower level managment all day. (my work day that is)

Their's is shock and dismay.  Disbelief even.  I for one cannot believe that all of these people think that the union and company, who are still not talking and have no plans to do so, will come to any sort of agreement within 5 days.  Especially when the 'talking points' are still in different time zones.

Managment has submitted the paper work to the bankruptcy court to satisfy creditors if union alignment with company wishes are not achieved.

I think I've ridden this horse to death.  It may have a couple more miles, but I'm not counting on it.

I have been told that I would be welcome back, if, the company makes it through this crisis that determines it's very existance, and I feel that I've made a serious mistake.

In fact this message was interupted by a call from managment.  (I'm home and on my own time)  I may be getting an early release, which would not make me unhappy.  As long as I get paid!

Having given more notice than required, and not having burned bridges...................

I find it hard to believe that they would actually be shocked.  Not doubting you, but their sanity.  With all the changes they're making, and with all the negative increases for their employees, expecting everyone to be fine with that and stay with them doesn't make much sense.

Continued well wishes for you in regard to the time ahead!

You're welcome. :)

Not really - or I guess, maybe possibly, but nothing stands out right now; I don't get offended that easily.  And it's not like I harbor it and hold onto it, and let it get me angry.  It stings for a few moments, and then I remind myself to let it go.  The thing that is most offensive to me is taking my Lord's name in vain or using a variant thereof.  But I don't see overmuch of that, so - *shrug*.  Also, I usually know when to stop viewing a thread before it has a chance to become something I don't want to read, or can at least tell which posts to pass over and which will be more to the subject at hand, etc.  But thank you, and you're more than forgiven if there was anything.
