Title: We need a HI-DEF forum

Quote
Microsoft and ESPN said people can purchase complete NCAA basketball and football games, the X Games sports competitions and programs like ESPN's "Madden Nation," which chronicles a competition of "Madden NFL" video game players, from the Xbox Live Web site.

Not that I will be giving my $$$ to the evil empire (*).   [sm_devil]

* Do I mean Microsoft or ESPN?  Flip a coin.   ;)

Admit it - you mean Microsoft  ;)

I don't have an XBox - have no intentions of getting one.  Wouldn't buy that programming even if I did.

If Setanta goes HD though.......

If Setanta goes HD though.......

My neighbor told me it is HD but I think he's wrong.  I'll let you know for sure Wed. night.

FSC is supposed to be HD in the near future.

Is there a sport that could use HD more than soccer?  I don't think so.

This might get me kicked off this forum...

I have never seen more than five minutes of HD tv/dvd and that much only once or twice.   :fear:

Same here.  My parents have HDtv but I rarely watch tv at their house.

Anyway...

It's an interesting peek at Microsoft's supposed (HD) content on demand model.  The crazies on AVS have it that MS is sitting back waiting for Sony and Toshiba to knock each other's brains out and they'll then jump in and take over with HD downloads.

As a guy with a few hundred $$$ of iTunes downloads I'm fairly paranoid that I'll just lose all that music.  It's backed up every night (incremental) and to DVD periodically.  I'm not sure I'll be all that hot on doing the same thing with movies at 15-25x the price.  Not too mention the cost of storage/backup at, and this is a SWAG, 20Gb per movie.

Put me solidly in the hard media camp.

Yeah, I have a 2T RAID array for storage but HD content can fill that rather quickly.  Still need hard media for long term storage - prices on drive space just doesn't stack up yet (but someday will I'm sure).

HOCKEY?

I agree soccer needs it as well.

yes we do need an A/V forum.  My projector doesn't recognize my HD-DVD over HDMI.

I haven't even seen that much.  I caught a few minutes glimpse of it when I was out Christmas shopping last year, and that's it. [sm_anon]

Yeah - hockey could as well.

The MLS matches on HDNET look great - would love that have that for all the matches.

espn  MLS games are the only thing left they broadcast that still looks : "WOW".

VS. NHL games share the WOW factor, as does most CBS football.

basketball shines in HD when it's done right, but that's rare (not TNT , ESPN, or ABC). also depends a lot if the floor is high gloss wax or not.

baseball is always "meh" thanks to the generated billboards that cause all sorts of compression noise and artifacts.

A/V forum, that will come in handy over the next couple years.

Hockey is the hardest for me to watch on tv. They can never seem to follow the action. Growing up in Buffalo going to Sabers games every year tv can never do it justice.

On that same note I don't know why people are so excited to sit on the glass. You can only see half the game. Up in the balcony is the best. You see everything, even the fights that start out away from the action.

No back on topic, HD media being downloaded to computers with 2T storage to be played on a DLP/LCD/Plasma TV in 1080p with sound played on a Denon something or other pushing 7.1 speakers discussion on a golf forum that does not talk golf. (gotta love this place)
