I tried said sandwich from said store, and it was just OK. The oyster po' boys from Acme were much better.

IMHO, the best sandwich in the Bay Area is made at Little Lucca in South San Francisco (http://www.littlelucca.com/). The place looks like a little shack off of El Camino Real, but the sandwiches are amazing. They offer about 30 different kinds of meat and have their own garlic and/or jalapeno spread that gives the sandwich a real kick.

 [sm_disgust] On their list.

I'm not really a big samich guy.  Some sort of roast beef grilled or panini type deal is good enough for me.

There is a new little deli just up the street, run by a pleasant scooter-driving lesbian (read 'urban green'), that offers an absolutely wicked pancietta arugula parmesian sandwhich on a fresh baguette.

OMFG!!!!!  That is the best sandwich I've ever had in my life!!!

(I got a serious problem about going all the way to northern california for a lobster sandwich with NO butter [sm_shock] [sm_disgust] :P)

Ingredients:
Fresh Maine lobster tossed with melted butter, fresh herbs and diced celery. Served on a warm, toasted, top-loaded roll

About:
Lobster in California? That's what we said, but you have to taste it to believe it. This sandwich is served “naked” — no mayo, just great lobster with butter, some celery and herbs on a toasted artisan roll.

Did you mean "no mayo"?

mmmmm...when I read it, I could have sworn it said 'no butter'...nevertheless, I stand by my initial mischaracterization

1. The muffuletta

GAME OVER. Never had Central's, but I've had a few different versions.

The secret's in the relish, which can be duplicated at home fairly easily.

There is this small hole in the wall place in Dayton, Ohio.  Called Charlie's Import Foods.  Sort of a carry out, deli, lunch made to order kind of place.

Rare roast beef on dark pump rye, hot pepper cheese, spicy mustard, chopped onion, raw horseradish, and the denoumount, sauerkraut.  $2.95 to go only.  To die for.  I swear, to die for.

It is called the 'Jeff Special'.  I'm thinking of asking for thick sliced pepper bacon to be added the next time. ;D

I'm with Aske & stroh on the list.   [sm_disgust]

I think my favorite sandwich is a basic BLT, with lots of mayo and home-grown tomatoes.

Having never eaten any on the list, I submit.....

The Maple Spiced Pork Loin from McGurk's http://www.mcgurks.com/index.html.  Maple spiced pork loin, per the namesake, apple wood smoked cheddar, Guinness onions, on a toasted sourdough baguet.  Add a few condiments and you're in sandwich heaven

It's good, I promise.  But if you can't handle the cinnamon raisin bread, you could substitute sourdough bread, and it'd be more worthy of being called "San Francisco," I suppose, since there is a lot of great sourdough in San Francisco.
