The Minnesota Supreme Court today rejected a bid by Norm Coleman in the disputed U.S. Senate election to consider counting hundreds of rejected absentee ballots from mostly Republican-leaning areas.

The court did not issue an opinion on Republican Coleman's claim that the ballots may have been wrongly rejected, saying he can press a court contest if he wants to prove his point.

The ruling this morning appears to clear the way for the State Canvassing Board this afternoon to certify results of the Senate election recount, presumably with Democrat Al Franken on top. Franken holds an unofficial 225-vote lead.

The Coleman campaign has said it's likely to file an election contest, or lawsuit, if the board does that. The campaign would have seven days to take action, and an election certificate could not be issued until the legal action was resolved.

On the radio this morning:  "Whoever does end up with it can serve with the knowledge that 60 percent of Minnesotans doesn't want him there."

The only difference between Franken and me is not all the pictures like that one, but me knowing that I couldn't possibly run for any public office, including dogcatcher, because of them.

The Minnesota Supreme Court ruled today that Democrat Al Franken won the U.S. Senate election and said he was entitled to an election certificate that would lead to him being seated in the Senate.

Coleman does the right thing and concedes rather than continuing the circus......

Republican Norm Coleman ended his bruising eight-month court fight over Minnesota's U.S. Senate seat this afternoon, conceding to Democrat Al Franken after the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled in Franken's favor.

He concedes only after the MNSC tells him to HTFU. What a stand-up guy! LOL

Nope. Did it right after the ruling. Save the shots for those on the right more deserving. He is MUCH better than the assclown going to D.C. now. He's not one of your "wingnuts" and actually has been a pretty damn good senator.

Now that ACTUAL health care reform (IE single payer or a Gubment Option) is all but dead, nobody really gives a *feces* whether or not the Dems have 60 or 58.

Big Money wins. Everybody else can kiss there *goshdarn* ass or die trying. Most likely the latter.

That's what I said. :) He conceded after the MNSC told him to HTFU (i.e. gave its unanimous ruling). Yes, I understand that he could have taken this all the way to the USSC, but wouldn't it have been truly gracious to concede after the final recount rather than taking it to the MNSC in the first place?

Perhaps. But you and I both know it would have been the same had the shoe been on the other foot. Which it was and the dem's showed no sign of graciousness either. This was a circus and I give credit to Coleman for not bending to the will of the National party and appealing again.

I've always liked Norm.  I thought he did a great job with the city of St. Paul.  I would like to see him run for Governor again when T-Paw steps down.
