Title: Well the new PC is up and running
Post by: Aske on November 29, 2006, 07:11:10 PM
Finally got some bare bones protection and functionality on it...

Sal is trying a new game on it now,   and throughout the week we'll actually load it up with office, openoffice, photoshop, gimp, and all the other standard stuff

I would have thought Firefox would have been the first thing listed. [sm_shock] :D

install av/firewall
install adaware, spy sweeper, pestpatrol
install firefox

plug into network
update all of above, plus windows

Exact order I always do. :D Is pestpatrol underrated? Never really hear it recommend.

it has explicit keylogger monitoring,  which is a big plus to me,  as we do all our bankin, etc  online

oh, and it can run  Junior 9 with 1200 MB of RAM and evaluate 2M positions a second.  I think it will be beating me everytime.  If i ever get the dual proc version, I guess 3.5M positions a second is possible.

 ;D

of course, with even better machines (quad cores, faster RAM, etc)  it's no wonder these machines are beatine gradnmasters routinely now.
