Title: Paging network know-it-alls
Post by: lennyquai on January 04, 2009, 09:44:08 PM
Anyone want to help me properly set-up a network?  I figure I'd rather pay a fellow ho than a non-ho - though I might be able to find a non-ho who is a ho, I guess.  If so, PM me your phone number and best time(s) to call.

Just bought a Windows SBS 2008 server for the home office - no time to figure out the Ubuntu thing right now.

Currently:
Comcast IP Gateway going to wireless router and switch.

Switch to my downstairs office:  2 computers (will go to server as well), 1 printer, pbx phone system
Switch to my wife's office: another switch that goes to: 2 computers, 1 printer

I have an employee who works from her home in NC.

Right now, I'm outsourcing hosting of a Filemaker Pro database so that my employee in NC and wife both have access to it.  I'm going to let Comcast host the email via their Exchange server.

Thanks in advance!!

I was going to suggest really long cables but then figured it was implied anyway

Dang, with all of the computer geeks on the board, I figured someone knew networks.  I've got the long cable stuff figured out - no connectivity issues - smartasses. ;D

I've sent your specs to my brother who's a sysadmin to see if he can offer any advice. I'll let you know what he tells me.

Well, if ya got the connectivity stuff figured out - stop asking for 'network' geeks.  ;)

Sounds like you want a server geek.  I'm afraid my MS server knowledge is very outdated.  You want a 10,000 site MPLS network - I'm your guy.  A fully integrated multi-national IP Telephony system - I'm your guy.  A simple home server - I'm lame.  All strange but true.

Thanks, guys.

Spacey - please don't knock yourself out over this.  I thought there might be someone (maybe Torp) who could help out and make a few bucks at it.   I've got guys that can help, though would rather pay a ho.

As it turns out, he has zero experience with windows servers, so he's unable to offer any assistance. I tried.
