Title: Why you left FGI
Post by: gleek on October 16, 2006, 03:14:59 PM
I see some familiar user names, so I was just wondering about your reason for coming here.

OMG! You're still alive! LOL

I might be up for a match in a few weeks. Things are a little hectic right now.

I still hang out on FGI, but the reason I'm here is twofold:

1) When I first joined FGI, I was amazed because it was unique among online forums in that people respected each other and there was a great deal of camaraderie.  Now there seems to be quite a bit of animosity over there, and even folks that were civil in the past have been dragged into the bickering.

In a nutshell, the rancor outweighed the fun.

2) When someone would stand up and say, "what's happened to this place, it doesn't have to be this way", they'd be met with people calling them whiners or a response like "if you don't like it here, go start your own forum."

If you look at the Hall of Fame over there, many of them have moved on to other sites or rarely post on FGI anymore.  Also, Sponsors and Premium members were being ignored my management and bashed by mobs that so easily form over there once this week's target is selected.

Essentially, I thought that if management is willing to ignore Hall of Famers, Sponsors, and Premium Members, the people that contributed their time and money in making that place great, then FGI's best days are behind it.

I can't really vote for any of the reasons you've listed so I should probably shut up and go away as I'm serving no purpose here.

I still spend a lot of time over there, but I kind of like it here because so far dystopia has done a pretty good job of attracting people here who I like. Without naming names, there are those "over there" who insist on making everything unpleasant, controversial, and confrontational. By and large I'm able to ignore them, but some days it gets tough.

A sense of humor seems hard to come by at FGI some days. All the bitching about "he who must never be mentioned" making his WWE posts, chess rounds, whatever got pretty old. I still can't believe they're still whining about it over there. The bickering in the Equipment forums over the same old crap, a select few sponsors (or former sponsors) who couldn't seem to find enought to complain about, etc. I admit I've been dragged into the mud a couple of times, and I'm not totally without blame, but some days it seems too easy to be dragged down.

There are still a lot of people over there who I like, and it's still mostly fun, but it's nice to have a refuge here too. It's kinda like Cheers.  ;D

yep, you should see the PM that I received when I asked why one of Aske's post was shutdown, but some dumb ass post by TheHose was allowed to go on.

I guess the only reason I left was because FGI all of a sudden got blocked by my work 'Webmarshall', and dystopia sent me an email and invited me over here to have a look.... now if I could only get 'chat' working here....... ;D ;D

You know, steg, my SIL lives in Boise. Next time mrs. spaceage drags me up there to visit, I'm going to make you take me out for 18, and you'll have to be nice the whole time.  [sm_devil]

I usually just browse the clubhouse for interesting topics, but don't log in and post.  Also jump in the chatroom from time to time and exchange howdy's with the usual late night chatters, twoiron, espe, supperman.

I really didn't want to be a member at the sort of joint that would have me as a member.

Pretty much everything that has already been said.

I still hang out there.

Like I said in my other post, this site doesn't load great for me right now, and locks up quite a bit, but that will fix itself soon.

I follwed "  [sm_devil] " here.  I have "known" him for 3 years now, and know I him and Sal. to be "good people".

I also enjoy reading what spaceage writes. [secret text that he can't see] He has actually taught me a lot from what he has posted.  I have learned a great deal about "both sides" from his postings in P & R to a) enlighten ButchC.  b) enlightnd uh,......lecture Ringer, much to the demise of his sanity. c) Teach.  Wolud love to meet, play golf, and see the bottom of a few glasses. [/s.t.t.h.c.s.]

.........oh, and stegerman,.......oh boy.  That's another thread. ;D

I left FGI because it doesn't have a single extremely cool function like this one.  PS, a huge severe storm packing tornadoes is right outside your window.  Ha!  Made you look!  Get's 'em every time!!! LOL!!!
