The Blu-Ray format titles seem to be priced lower than the HD-DVD titles.

well, the hd/sd  combos always command a price premium.  added functionality.

I don't get combos.  If I'm buying HDM I'm not too worried if I'll also have a version for the kiddies in the van.

Save me $5-10 and keep your SD version.

The combos are generally only $1 more than HD-only titles.

The Departed (SD/HD): $27.95
Shooter (HD-only): $26.95
Hot Fuzz (SD/HD): $27.95
Transformers (HD-only): $26.95
Letters from Iwo Jima (SD/HD): $27.95
Blades of Glory (HD-only): $26.95

Other than the older titles, Knocked Up seems to be the only HD-only title on the list that sells for less than $26.95.

Combos are $34.99 MSRP.  And usually are priced as such in the B&M stores.

The crazy thing about this is all the *feces*e movies they keep pumping out.  Given HDM titles number in the hundreds (maybe it's a thousand by now) overall why the hell do we need "I Know Who Killed Me" and "Daddy Day Camp"?

It seems the studios want to try and recoup box office losses any way they can.  It's insulting to the HDM niche market.  They don't want this crap.  Spend the time on catalog films which still have legs.

I actually like the combos, and think it a key advantage that HD-DVD folks should exploit more.

Like most people I have more than one TV and a DVD player, but only one HD setup.  With a combo I can (although its not often) view the same disc in all the locations (basement, bedroom, etc.).

well, im a fan of the combo/twin idea.  i'd prefer a more reasonable price though

that said,  of course they crank out crap right now, especially on the BD side.  they need to sell titles  12-16 year old ps3   kiddies will buy so they can keep their 'sales lead' and try to win the war via  PR.

Interesting you guys like the combos.  Zero appeal to me.  I want to watch the film on my best setup or probably not at all.  I'll probably buy a HDM player for the bedroom at some point but I really doubt I'd put a SD-DVD player up there.  I see your angle - it just doesn't apply to me at all.

Aske, also interesting is your point about Blu-ray, PS3 and crap titles  I'm not sure I'm convinced that's the main reason they're doing it but certainly doesn't hurt them.   [sm_disgust]

well, i also like watching movies in the background at work, and on my laptop, etc

since none of those places have hd-dvd right now....

and as a trojan to get HD-dvd into peoples hands (regardless of whether they have setups now or not...)...   the combo/twin at a $1 or $2 premium over current SD prices would  DESTROY  blowray tomorrow

Yes - and hence my surprise that they haven't gone out of their way to do this.  Business acumen is apparently not their strong suit - which is why they depend upon the continued abuse of outdated copyright laws  ::)
