Post by: AKABubba on February 14, 2007, 02:23:30 PM

You can't spell "Bass" without "ass" ;)

HOTTIE  May not be safe for work!
I hope that this revision isn't too late.  Sorry.

And this pertains to "Bar Exam" how?

(i.e. My mom dropped me on my head a lot when I was a baby and I need help understanding things sometimes.)

You see the Bass sign on the bar mirror?

Maybe it's like not seeing the boat.

I have nothing against "hottie" threads if people here feel like they're necessary, and as far as I know neither does the site admin. I also appreciate the "warn" tags. Would I be asking too much if they could also be clearly labeled as "hottie" threads in the thread title? I would (and I know of others besides me who would) appreciate it greatly. TIA.

Bingo!  Thanks for the post spacey.

I would also like to express great thanks for the use of warn tags. [sm_thumbsup]

I think that's a big reason this sight "works" so well.  We all have a pretty good sense of each other.

I clicked this thread open as soon as I got home, but there is no way those pic.s (un warned) would fly at my work.  My GolfHos days at work would be done on the spot.

ps, nice pic.s aka.

Mike

I'm all for that. While I appriciate a good hottie thread, I sometimes worry at work. I mean just the site name, GolfHOs could be filtered at my work.

The girls in that photo aren't safe for work, home ,anywhere! [sm_yuck]

FWIW I modified my original post to include a "Hottie warning".
Sorry if this caused any problems.

Yeah, hottie pics are a risky move for a forum to embrace for a couple of reasons:

1) If the search engine spiders that visit here find a lot of risque pics (from the picture's url or the name of the image file), we risk having this site classified as an adult site. (the name golfhos doesn't help either)

If this place gets classified that way, bad things happen.  Google ads don't allow adult sites, and the ads pay for the bandwidth and hopefully down the road will pay for demo clubs for us to pass around)

Those type of sites also don't always show up in search engine results, and the lurkers that come here via search engines help the site traffic for additional ad impressions (which pays bandwidth...).

2) Also, a lot of companies have firewalls that track the web traffic going through it.  We don't want to have too much content that might flag this site as one that should be blocked. Someone here had FIGs blocked at work because of the hottie pics over there, and I'd prefer not to see that happen here.  That might be one of the worst offenses I can think of on a forum, to cause someone else to lose access to it.

Seems that in the interest of GolfHos.com general health and well-being we should self-police and just say no to hottie threads.

It looks like that we're barely on pace to break the bandwidth usage of Januaray despite the recent influx of new members. Aske must be slacking off (as usual).

I'm wondering if the stats might be screwed up for Feb.  Our highest traffic numbers should have been during the most recent time golfhos was exposed on figs a week or so ago.  But according to the logs, we had bigger numbers in January (both total visits and unique users).

So I wouldn't put too much faith in the numbers. (although there hasn't been any ncaa or nfl play by play this month)

hmmm

2.42/14  vs 4.59/31

and lets assume  90 users vs 135

abbout 1.65 MB/day-user in jan
about 1.30 MB / day-user in feb so far

statistically significant difference?

Exactly. You're definitely lagging this month. Hurry up and skew the bandwidth/user numbers!

further, if you take the above as an approximation as good enough

and if you take an approximation each thread page is 20 kb

thats...

about 82 vs  64  page views   / user-day

I don't think you can only count members and ignore spiders and non-member lurkers.

In January, if you look at the top 25 hostnames by bandwidth, the #5, 10, 23, 14, 17, and 20 spots are taken up by separate google spiders.

In Feb, in the top 25 hostnames by bandwidth, the #3, 4, and 13 spots are taken up by individual google spiders.

Plus, there's a lot of folks from search engines.  Here's some of the more interesting search strings that have brought visitors here in the last two months:
