What a bunch of crap. It's so you can't say a damned thing without offending someone, somewhere. ???

I watched an old All Star Golf last night (featuring a young man who recently turned pro named Jack Nicklouse  ;D) and Jimmy Demaret used to say 4 par as well.

Millers no Demaret. Demaret looked like he's got a highball stashed somewhere very close by and is actually enjoying himself, even with what appears to be a large plumbing fixture attached to his chest.

Miller just comes across as peevish and nasty at times, but it's not like he called Mediate a *goshdarn* wop or anything.

A:  I did not hear the comments live so I have only the article to go on.

B:  I am normally as anti P.C. bull*feces* as the next guy, but not on this.  Miller put his foot in his mouth and *fudge*ed up plain and simple.  His arrogance and pompous attitude got ahead of him and now he looks like the *8==>* he is.

I don't care who you're talking about, or in what context, you cant say this:
Quote
Miller:
“looks like the guy who cleans Tiger’s swimming pool.”
about someone who is tied for the lead, and taking the worlds number one player to 19 *goshdarn* holes of playoff major championship golf!  Even if it is the...... Man working class regular Joe blue collar scratch and claw.  Good for him  context.

Bull*feces*.  Think if the names had been reversed.  It damn near got Tilghman fired.

This man is a 23 year tour veteran with 5 wins.  And..........

Quote
Miller:
“guys with the name of Rocco don’t get on the trophy, do they?”

What the *fudge* does that mean?  Only guys with names like Chancellor Stickuphisassington the third can win major championships?

Hey Johnny.  Alert the media:  I can show you four different trophies with the name Tiger on them 14 *goshdarn* times.  They don't do that, do they?  You idiot *fudge*.

I think if anything this in someway vindicates Tilghman.  Everybody's human, and it's easy to *fudge* up on air.

He did *fudge* up.

I used to care for Miller in much the same way that Aske shared love for Jim Nantz.  I like him even less now.

I didn't hear the comment live, but I did think "WTF?" when I read about it.

My general opinion is that political correctness is bull*feces*, but not in the way most people think political correctness is bull*feces*. I tend to believe that no one can force "PC" upon you unless you let them. Sure, there are certain social standards, but people like Hannity and Limbaugh have made very comfortable livings being un-PC, and so far the "PC police" have yet to shut them down. PC may be a "phantom menace" but only, IMHO, when people blame it for them not being free to make golliwog and faggot jokes in polite company.

You want to make those kind of jokes? Have at it, it's your constitutionally protected right to do so. But freedom of speech doesn't equate to freedom of consequence for that speech. Whether that's losing your job, some guy beating the *feces* out of you, or people just generally finding you to be a troglodyte.

When your job is broadcasting, particularly for a major network, they're going to hold you to certain standards of decorum, and when you fail to meet those standards (even if only in the eyes of a certain portion of the viewership) there are going to be repercussions, including issuing an apology, or losing your job. I don't think that's political correctness, that's the major networks covering their asses where they live- advertising dollars.

That being said, Miller has said way more offensive things, in my mind, than comparing Mediate to a pool cleaner. Issuing an apology, though, (whether demanded by the network or otherwise) is his prerogative. He's free to say "*fudge* you, I said what I said and if you're offended by it, that's your problem, not mine." Of course the network is also free to say "*fudge* you right back, we can find another pompous former golfer to fill your spot with very little trouble at all."

That might have been what he was alluding to when he said that he looks like a guy that cleans swimming pools, but he did make a comment about Mediate's ethnic-sounding name "Rocco".

Well put. In a far less eloquent way, I'd like to add that making non-PC comments in public is like ripping a loud one in a closed elevator filled with strangers. Sure, it's not against the law to fart in an elevator and you may even get a few laughs, but it's considered uncouth (almost universally, I would imagine) so don't expect everyone to take a big whiff and grin.

Miller should have chosen his words more carefully, as they are somewhat offensive.  Think about it this way: If he said that about a Negro, he'd definitely lose his job.  That's just the nature of our reality these days, where everyone is, or at least should be, more aware of our cultural sensibilities.

Still, you've got to admit he has a point.  Wops don't tend to be any better at golf than chinks, spicks and nips..most of whom wouldn't know what end of a club to use.  In terms of day laborers, it is my experience that spicks are uniformally prompt, whereas I always budget a few extra hours delay time if I hire a wop, since they are always late for the appointment....sleeping one off, I suppose.
