Title: Best Movie Car Chase
Post by: Uisce Beatha on November 09, 2007, 08:47:06 AM
You have to start the discussion with The French Connection.  Classic.

There's the chase in The Italian Job which is pretty good but I don't think Minis are quite able for all that.   ;)

Terminator and Matrix trilogies (whichever movies, can't remember) have some good stuff.

But for me, the best on film is Ronin.

The original "car chase" had to be Bullitt, 1968.  French Connection came 3 years later.

Even if not first TFC has to be recognized.   :)

Yeah, often imitated, never duplicated. McQueen does his own driving, IIRC and the guy driving the Charger was actually the stunt coordinator as well:

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World was one big, giganormous car chase, and came out years before the French Connection, which is widely credited undeservedly, IMO.

Bullitt is a classic, but probably only because of the famous car chase scene.

Among my favorite car chases:

Sigh,

Sort of like my daughter who once said "I didn't know Paul McCartney was in a band before Wings.........."

Not recognizing some of Hal Needham and  Burt Reynolds work in this field would be an oversight...
