Title: Stinkin' Public Transportation
Post by: stegerman on January 12, 2007, 02:47:31 PM
A steer releases enough methane gas in its lifetime to power Miami's fleet of public transportation vehicles for one day.

I'm sure you'd get gassy, too, if you were castrated.

Is this plausible? IIRC, the number is about 280 liters per day, per cow, of methane produced which converts to 27,000 gallons per year (liquid). Too lazy right now to check the gas-liquid conversion. How long does a cow live? Assuming 10 years = 270,000 gallons of fuel, enough for 2700 buses traveling 100 miles in one day.

Not knowing what the fleet size is of Miami's public transportion nor the average mpg this means little. But, I'm not ready to say it's BS.

I call BS.

If I were a steer I would do a really big poo.

And then I would call it BS too.

Fuzz, 'twas a witticism, a quick retort, nay, dare I say a whisper of repartee... all wrapped up in emoticonical iconacism.

Or something.   ;D
