Same here, and I read through most of it.

I really need to get out more.

I don't even have to read it to be able to tell you I haven't seen any of them. ;D

Little Miss Sunshine and Cars are the only ones I've seen. Little Miss Sunshine was good, but the other crop have to be pretty mediocre for it to win "Best Picture."

Cars was lame.

Here's just one (out of the many) reasons showing why this, and the Academy Awards are a meaningless hwood  masturbatory frenzy of self-congratulatory back-patting.

Borat- hilarious, smart film.  Screenplay ?  It was 90+% improvised.

Moops?

 ;D ;D

The sad part is, half this board hates that show.  Don't know why, there is so much good material there.

I don't hate it, I just never was able to get into it. I thought the show would have been much better sans the title character. And, no, I don't understand the reference in the picture.

I don't hate it, I just might not piss on the show if it was on fire.

I mean swerve the bus.

To swill away the blood after it bled out?

That's very public spirited of you.

God Bless you Mr. Christian.

Your thoughts?

1. Best Picture: "Babel,'' "The Departed,'' "Letters From Iwo Jima,'' "Little Miss Sunshine,'' "The Queen.''

i've only seen little miss. and the departed from these.  i suppose the queen is good.  i'm sick of the eastwood fellating,  and i think the departed is more a liftetime nod, and a nod for not giving  Gangs of NY more props a few years ago

fountain, pan's labyrinth, and children of men  ... my top 3

Quote
2. Actor: Leonardo DiCaprio, "Blood Diamond''; Ryan Gosling, "Half Nelson''; Peter O'Toole, "Venus''; Will Smith, "The Pursuit of Happyness''; Forest Whitaker, "The Last King of Scotland.''

aside from peter otoole, and forest whitaker, none of these asshats can really act very much

hugh jackman in the fountain  was phenomenal
i havent seen it yet, but I can't imagine Ed Norton putting in a not-worthy performance in the illusionist

Quote
3. Actress: Penelope Cruz, "Volver''; Judi Dench, "Notes on a Scandal''; Helen Mirren, "The Queen''; Meryl Streep, "The Devil Wears Prada''; Kate Winslet, "Little Children.''

didnt see a single one of these (yet)  although mirren and winslet can both act very well, I don't doubt they did well

a nod should have been given to the little girl in Pan's L, who carries the film

Quote
4. Supporting Actor: Alan Arkin, "Little Miss Sunshine''; Jackie Earle Haley, "Little Children''; Djimon Hounsou, "Blood Diamond''; Eddie Murphy, "Dreamgirls''; Mark Wahlberg, "The Departed.''

wahlberg,  who has actually gown into quite the actor.... surprisingly

Quote
5. Supporting Actress: Adriana Barraza, "Babel''; Cate Blanchett, "Notes on a Scandal''; Abigail Breslin, "Little Miss Sunshine''; Jennifer Hudson, "Dreamgirls''; Rinko Kikuchi, "Babel.''

really ,  between the ones i saw, and didnt see,  nothing here stands out.
i don't remember a single great supporting actress role this year though, either

Quote
6. Directing: Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, "Babel''; Martin Scorsese, "The Departed''; Clint Eastwood, "Letters From Iwo Jima''; Stephen Frears, "The Queen''; Paul Greengrass, "United 93.''

scorcese out of these should win, because he's been shafted too much in the past.
aronofsky should win for the fountain.  astounding work.

Quote
7. Foreign Language Film: "After the Wedding,'' Denmark; "Days of Glory (Indigenes),'' Algeria; "The Lives of Others,'' Germany; "Pan's Labyrinth,'' Mexico; "Water,'' Canada.
pans labyrinth is the olny one of these I have seen, but I can't imagine anything being better.

Quote
8. Adapted Screenplay: Sacha Baron Cohen and Anthony Hines and Peter Baynham and Dan Mazer and Todd Phillips, "Borat Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan''; Alfonso Cuaron and Timothy J. ****ton and David Arata and Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, "Children of Men''; William Monahan, "The Departed''; Todd Field and Tom Perrotta, "Little Children''; Patrick Marber, "Notes on a Scandal.''

children of men

Quote
9. Original Screenplay: Guillermo Arriaga, "Babel''; Iris Yama*feces*a and Paul Haggis, "Letters From Iwo Jima''; Michael Arndt, "Little Miss Sunshine''; Guillermo del Toro, "Pan's Labyrinth''; Peter Morgan, "The Queen.''
pan's labyrinth

Quote
10. Animated Feature Film: "Cars,'' "Happy Feet,'' "Monster House.''
happy feet

Quote
11. Art Direction: "Dreamgirls,'' "The Good Shepherd,'' "Pan's Labyrinth,'' "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest,'' "The Prestige.''
never really understood what this award is for really
if it is what i think it is,  Silent Hill should win

Quote
12. Cinematography: "The Black Dahlia,'' "Children of Men,'' "The Illusionist,'' "Pan's Labyrinth,'' "The Prestige.''
The Fountain.  Every single shot is composed and shot perfectly.

Quote
13. Sound Mixing: "Apocalypto,'' "Blood Diamond,'' "Dreamgirls,'' "Flags of Our Fathers,'' "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.''
movies like blackhawk down have good sound mixing.  among the ones of these I saw,  none had great sound mixing.  no clue .
the more i think about it,  underworld 2 and ultraviolet were among the only good films this year with really good sound mixing

Quote
14. Sound Editing: "Apocalypto,'' "Blood Diamond,'' "Flags of Our Fathers,'' "Letters From Iwo Jima,'' "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.''
what the feck is this supposed to mean? how is really different than mixing ?

Quote
15. Original Score: "Babel,'' Gustavo Santaolalla; "The Good German,'' Thomas Newman; "Notes on a Scandal,'' Philip Glass; "Pan's Labyrinth,'' Javier Navarrete; "The Queen,'' Alexandre Desplat.
here, interesting,  I actually hated the score in pan's labyrinth.  seldom does a modern film have a good score anyways.  no clue, haven't seen most of these

Quote
16. Original Song: "I Need to Wake Up'' from "An Inconvenient Truth,'' Melissa Etheridge; "Listen'' from "Dreamgirls,'' Henry Krieger, Scott Cutler and Anne Preven; "Love You I Do'' from "Dreamgirls,'' Henry Krieger and Siedah Garrett; "Our Town'' from "Cars,'' Randy Newman; "Patience'' from "Dreamgirls,'' Henry Krieger and Willie Reale.

whatever from the fountain that got repeated.  amazing.

Quote
17. Costume: "Curse of the Golden Flower,'' "The Devil Wears Prada,'' "Dreamgirls,'' "Marie Antoinette,'' "The Queen.''
not even close to silent hill.   most viewers thought scenes were CGI when they were in fact live action with great costume/makeup/etc

Quote
18. Documentary Feature: "Deliver Us From Evil,'' "An Inconvenient Truth,'' "Iraq in Fragments,'' "Jesus Camp,'' "My Country, My Country.''
didnt see any of these . borat's film portions that documented dumb 'merkans  are probably more valuable, anyways

Quote
19. Documentary (short subject): "The Blood of Yingzhou District,'' "Recycled Life,'' "Rehearsing a Dream,'' "Two Hands.''
???  wtf are these

Quote
20. Film Editing: "Babel,'' "Blood Diamond,'' "Children of Men,'' "The Departed,'' "United 93.''

children of men.  war scene editing is among the best editing jobs in the last 20 years  (rise of quasi modern SFX)

Quote
21. Makeup: "Apocalypto,'' "Click,'' "Pan's Labyrinth.''
3 nominees? none of the 'monster' movies?  wtf. pan L.

Quote
22. Animated Short Film: "The Danish Poet,'' "Lifted,'' "The Little Matchgirl,'' "Maestro,'' "No Time for Nuts.''

?????

Quote
23. Live Action Short Film: "Binta and the Great Idea (Binta Y La Gran Idea),'' "Eramos Pocos (One Too Many),'' "Helmer & Son,'' "The Saviour,'' "West Bank Story.''

????????????

Quote
24. Visual Effects: "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest,'' "Poseidon,'' "Superman Returns.''

the FX in all these sucked major ass.  more proof the academy doesnt even watch every movie out there.  UW2, UV, SH, Fountain, etc  all have far superior FX to anything in all these...
