I have no idea.  Whatever standard is.

I think it's 37" give or take a 1/4".

Maybe you should try single length irons.

That would make you 6I shorter than my SW. How long is your 6I now? Mine is 37.5.

We have a saying over at Old Man Army:

I'll need video documentation or 3d party confirmation.

I'm not saying you can't do it, mind you.

On edit:

We're talking in the air here, not the Don Johnson down the driveway shot, correct?

I can hit 59 degree wedge 200 yards if I blade it and it rolls down the cartpath and into the parking lot.... ::)  [sm_devil]

How are shortening the shafts? Are you cutting from the tip or the butt? If you're cutting off the butt, you must have to use a *feces*load of build-up tape for the grips.

Not as long as twoiron's but more loft and the perfect tool when extracting myself from nasty rough.

Aske,

You should check out True Length Technology.

BTW, why isn't this in the golf talk section?  I got really confused as to where I was...............

Agreed on TLT.  I'm making myself a set to TLT specs so I'll post a review in the coming weeks.

My 6 iron is 38.5" with TLT it will be a fraction longer buy my wedges will be 2" over standard.  So I won't have to hunch over so much.

My 13 year old hit my old 3i (which is about 2" too long for him) about that last night.  You're a wimp.   ;)

(Actually, he did just that.  I just about shat myself.  I don't have one in my bag now 'cuz I can barely hit a 3i.)

Are you going to adjust the swingweights?

If I didn't know any better I would think this is a golf forum.

WTF have we come to.

There's so many ways to read that statement.

No further comment from me....

LOL. i was hitting it 215 before i cut it down.   i'll give up the distance if i get more overall consistency and confidence.

Are you going to adjust the swingweights?

thats what im not sure about.  i was hitting all these clubs choked down about 2" for 6-8 months now. i got use to the 'sw' from that position how much does it really change just by cutting them down and then regripping (im more worried about how long it will take me to get used to feeling like im actually holding the club again LOL)

Swingweight changes about three points per half-inch.

I'm wondering if the grip size is going to be an issue.  You're used to gripping down 2" on standard grips, which puts you on a smaller-diameter part of the grip.  After shortening the clubs and regripping, you're going to be holding the standard-diameter portion.

If you're holding the club at the same position relative to the head there will be just a minuscule difference in swingweight due to the loss of mass that used to be above your hands. That mass was so close to the fulcrum, I doubt any human would notice the difference with all things being equal. With that said, it's not really possible to keep all things equal since you will be gripping it with fatter part of the grip as has already been mentioned. The difference in grip position/feel will far outweigh any change in the swingweight*.

*relative to where you have been gripping the club

In addition to, and perhaps more important than, swingweight changes.....

With length changes that dramatic the lie angles are sure to require modification.

I've never attempted single length experiements myself so I cannot comment much on its affectiveness.  But I do know that the traditional way clubheads are built is centered on length changes in the set - minor increases in clubhead speed, minor descreases in shaft flex, etc. to match the clubheads loft and center of gravity for proper launch.  Monkey too much with one variable and the result starts to change.  Basically, you're setting yourself up for a lot of equipment modifications in addition to cutting a shaft shorter.

But hey - experiment away - I love it when someone else offers to be the lab rat  :)

well thats the thing i'd adjusted my stance/swing/etc so that the clubs (when choked down on about 2") had the lie angle I like.  i just got used to the swing and liked the results.  the lie angle isn't an issue.

definitely i was hitting straight and right  no lefts in the mix.  will take a while to really having to work to turn the head over again
