I learned to pronounce it "poin-set-ee-uh" but we're sort of stupid around here...

We tend to add syllables where none exist, and subtract some from their rightful place. We also freely add consonants where we think they should be. Hence, point-set-a. If you said "poin-set-ee-uh" you'd be preemptively gay bashed on sight, even by frilly libs.

Speaking of which, can someone please explain to a stupid as hell mid-westerner (roughly) WTF with the Carl's Jr. Philly Cheese Steak Burger commercial?

Would that I could. A couple of mushmouthed taxi drivers saying things like "boygu." Thank god it's captioned for the non-intellectually impaired.

Without seeing it I'm guessing it is two italian looking guys who are uttering nonsense at each other using an exaggerated Brooklyn accent that most people think is a Philly accent, but isn't even close in reality.

I won't see it since we don't have Carl's Jr. here. Further, no fast food chain would ever promote any kind of "philly cheesesteak anything" in Philly because if they did they would be preemptively gay bashed on sight, even by frilly libs.

According to Merriam Webster, both are correct.

I grew up exclusively hearing poin-set-uh, and got weirded out when I met people that pronounced the 'i' in college. (stranger in a strange land)

Oddly, over my time there, I completely lost my Pittsburghese accent and started to mimic the speech patterns of those around me once I grokked them (I went to school with a lot of folks from NYC, LongGuyLand, and jersey)
