um, is it the article about album of the year going to washed up  geezer  herbie hancock and his collection of vocalists filling in {covering!!!} joni mitchell tracks ?

a *goshdarn* cover album is the best thing made this year ???

if so, that's the article i intended.   if that's the best thing out there,  you can certainly expect ZERO f'n sales from the main 'buying' age/demographic.   that's all.
 :)

The album peaked at #118 on The Billboard 200

The Grammys are notorious for their total inability to reflect the attitudes and affections of the buying public at large. They've missed the mark a number of times, beginning with their complete total lack of recognition of rock and roll until the late sixties, offering "Best New Artist" status to Milli Vanilli, awarding Jethro Tull as the best Heavy Metal act of 1988, and even considering Paul McCartney as an "alternative" act in 2000.

The Grammys are nothing more than a music industry hype machine and an opportunity for geezers and fogies to pat each other on the back for their ability to continue to crank out sub-par music that reflects a mere shadow of their former work. I would encourage anyone so inclined to not read too much into them.

If "Rockit" is the extent of your familiarity with Hancock's work, I weep for you.  :sad3:

Probably worth its own thread but when was the last time any of you watched one of the big awards shows?  Grammys, Oscars, Tonys [sm_shock] [sm_devil], Golden Globes, etc.

For me, other than a brief minute here and there it's been at least 20 years and maybe never.

I watched a bit of the show last night. Caught the Beyonce-Tina Turner "Proud Mary" number which I found oddly entertaining. I'll typically watch 20-30 minutes of the Grammys.

I've never seen the Tonys. Don't remember watching much of the Golden Globes either.

Last time I watched the Oscars all the way through was sitting next to my wife in the hospital the night after she had our oldest. 11 years ago this March.

Other than that it's bits and pieces here and there.
