Title: I'm Pretty Pleased
Post by: E-A-G-L-E! on September 23, 2007, 08:16:47 PM
Yesterday, my church had it's fall family time (or as it's formally called, "Fabulously Fantastic Family Fall Festival").  There are different categories to enter (breads, chili, baked goods, crafts) if you so choose, and there's time for fellowship, food, & games.

And it was a lot of fun. ;D  Kev, my cousin Kyle, Chelsea & Garrett were all there with me, and I'm sure they enjoyed it, too.  Chelsea and I tried to give the unicycles a try 8), but, for the life of me, I couldn't convince Kev to (don't know why, he loves to bike and do a lot of crazy stunts  [sm_scratch]).  Kev and I won the egg toss. :D  And while Kev and Ky took the little ones to play on the playground, my team one the playdoh sculture contest. :)  After that is was time for volleyball.  We didn't keep score for that, but I think I could probably tell you who won.  (Kinda like golf, you may not be adding up your scorecard, but you still have a pretty good estimate if you bother to think about it for half a second.)  Then it was time to eat, if you wanted to.  Since we ate before we left, we decided to chat and play more with the little ones.  (Oh, yeah, there was a "free time" [please excuse the kindergarten terminology ;)] at the beginning, too.)

Okay, so if you've read this far, you're probably wondering when I'm going to get to the part that I'm pleased about.

Well, I like to enter the craft category.  So I thought I'd enter Garrett's teddy bear, Bear Bear, and the doll I made for Chelsea, Greta, as a set.  And that's exactly what I did.  That is, after I gained Chelsea and Garrett's permission, which they were actually more hesitant than I thought they would be (especially when I told them that they'd have to have a sleep-over party at church the night before - I thought Chelsea would wash the house away with tears, but it was nice to know just how special they are to the kids).  Chelsea entered a clay owl, and Garrett entered a self-portrait of himself.  Had I known that photography was a craft, I'm sure Kev and/or I would have entered a pic.

In the 0-12 year-old group, Garrett received "honorable mention", and Chelsea received 2nd. 8) 8) 8)  Oh, and Bear Bear and Greta brought home a nice blue ribbon. :)

Nice!

As a soccer player, martial artist, and golfer I could have added........  board breaking?

Bah - it impressed the ladies back in the day anyway.

 ;D

Too bad those days are practically gone  :'(

Thanks!

Board breaking?  That's kewl! 8)  I attempted to do that once...  My lack of skill came to full realization on the downward motion of the hand, and I didn't fully follow through.  Been awhile since, I've seen someone who could do that.

Its not that hard.. the first board anyway  ;)

The talent is being able to do it over and over again without getting hurt.  But as Miyagi said... 'board no hit back'.

Are you still trying to impress Iggle? I thought she already turned down your proposal.

Instead of showing her how tough you are, you might want to try serenading her with this song:

Rick's not tough.  His idea of breaking boards is running into them with golf carts.   [sm_devil]

Congrats EAGLE.  Glad to hear there were some bears which performed well this weekend.

Always (now that its a 'thing' I guess) - and yes, she did  :'(

There's always hope for me... I'm too old for her, an accomplished sinner  ;), and there's that core philosophical difference - but hey, Julia Roberts married Lyle Lovett.  Just sayin.

That may be was Miyagi said, but the board says to me, "Board no need hit to make hurt."  ;)

It's probably for the best that I didn't seriously try to.  Knowing me, I'd probably hit it the wrong way and hurt myself.  Or worse yet, break a nail! [sm_shock]  (Actually, that never bothers me.  I couldn't care less about that.  Breaking a nail usually means I'm doing something fun. :D)

Nope, for now, until someone who knows what they are doing can give me instructions, I'll just cut styrofoam into 2.

Thanks.  Yes, I do, and I enjoy it so much.  When I can get the right colors in the right thread, I'm going to be making this doily (http://www.angelfire.com/folk/celtwich/Rosecircle.html) for my mom.

8)  That is cute.  I love it when little kids choose a name going by what the toy is.  How old is your daughter?

Garrett and Chels were very pleased to bring them home Saturday.  I'v been carrying a picture of them with their blankets I made for them in my wallet, but I think I'm going to need to update it to them with their doll and bear.  (The blankets might make it into the pic, too. :D)

Then again, I am capable of all manner of wickedness - so exasperate away, I have it coming.

But to bring this back home - those are really nice looking dolls, well done indeed.  My nephew lives too far away for me to play any meaningful role in his life  :'(

Technically, it's not.  It's considered slang or vulgar, though.  Thus, it's not in my vocabulary. :D

Thanks, the kids love them.  That pleases me more than the ribbon ever will.  They treat them well, play with them nicely, and treasure them.  And that, in turn, means a lot to me.  I don't think I'll ever forget the moment Garrett opened his present and saw the bear.  I had it in a gift bag, then wrapped in tissue paper.  So he pulled it out of the bag, tore back the tissue paper, pulled it out by his nose before he knew what it was, looked at it, and in a very sweet voice that was soft with pleasure said, "Oh-, a bear-!"

Chelsea, I knew would want one, and I already had plans to make a doll for her birthday.  She told my mom the next day she wanted me to crochet one for her, and mom told me.  But I couldn't get Chelsea to tell me that when I asked her.  Finally, after months of asking her what she wanted for her birthday, she told me she wanted a dolly.  So I asked her what she wanted it to look like, and she drew a picture pretty similar to the crochet pattern I had, strikingly so.  Well, I didn't make it look exactly like that, instead it "looks like" a miniature Chelsea.  Even though I had the doll completed about a month before her birthday and only worked on it when she wasn't able to see that I had a project going, I think she was able to guess.  But that's okay.  I know she loves it, too.  I wouldn't have chosen to name her Greta, in fact, I really didn't care for the name at first, but now I think it suits her.

Must be hard to be so far from your nephew. :sad3:

Tell us about it!!

Worthy of a topic of it's own.

Last year when the people of FIGS went to the desert, MBSHB, Moeman, myself and Gunga(? great partner and funny funny man) played ASU Karsten.  Myself and Moeman were unsober when we arrived at the course.  rickhicks was much the same, although not with myself or Moeman after Sugar Daddy's the night before.

We four led off the eight players.  I shot a lights out even par on the front and proceeded to score a 15 on #10. :P

MBSHB was playing match play against Moeman.  All I recall is that Moeman kicked some serious hobbit butt.  On 16 or 17 a longer par 3 MBSHB was hitting last.  (neener, neeener, neeeener)

hicksy overswung, swayed off the ball, and then lunged during the downswing.   The resulting divot required a Bobcat (small four wheel front/skid loader) to fill it.

The ball dribbled weakly/barely off the tee.  The divot went halfway to the hole.   ;D

I'm so hoping hicksy ain't forgot!

I'm not much for movies, so I probably wouldn't rent them even if you did recommend them. :D

Nah, not really.  I just take out words that aren't in my vocabulary.  I mean, when I'm talking to someone and they say something like that, I just kindly ask them to rephrase what they said.  But in a forum, well, that's pretty unreasonable so I just replace the words with asterisks that I don't want to quote.  I realize that everyone has their own rationale when it comes to what they say and allow in their vocabulary.  I don't expect all of you to change everything to suit me all the time, but I do appreciate it when you take that into consideration.  (Now, if we were talking directly to each other, say at a golf course, I would probably ask you to rephrase what you said. :D)
