Title: Clive & Uisce - Weather Watch 2.0
Post by: Fuzzy on November 30, 2007, 09:48:07 AM
UB's weather watch reminded me of my first trip to Bandon (our trips were done in March).

Day one: 50° with 40mph winds and sideways rain. One of our group on 16th green I believe:

Days two and three: Low 60's with light (10-15mph) winds. Just beautiful. 16th tee with me on the left:

Enjoy boys! I am very envious.

LMAO @ Clive & Uisce.  It sounds like some sort of bad Odd Couple-like sitcom or Thelma & Louis-like road trip movie.

Thanks Fuzzy.  Next year.   ;)

BTW, Bandon #16 is a seriously awesome hole.  Interesting read on how it came to be in Dream Golf: The Making of Bandon Dunes (http://www.amazon.com/Dream-Golf-Making-Bandon-Dunes/dp/1565125304/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1196446887&sr=1-1).

LMAO @ Clive & Uisce.  It sounds like some sort of bad Odd Couple-like sitcom or Thelma & Louis-like road trip movie.

[sm_laughatyou]  Too funny.

We have the cliffs (pun intended), we have the shockingly beautiful boy-toy (thank you very much) but alas we have no convertible.  We'll have to make do falling into gorse bushes.

Little Trip Down Memory Lane (Big pics so linked instead of inline.  I'm too lazy to downsize.)

#1 - Clive's Drive (http://www.xmission.com/~nolan/bandon-224/cliff-drive.jpg) - Pacific #4.  One of the best holes I've ever played.

#2 - Pints and Fire (http://www.xmission.com/~nolan/bandon-224/fireplace.jpg) - Good pints, good fire, extremely strange waitress.

#3 - First Tee Jitters (http://www.xmission.com/~nolan/bandon-224/bandon-1.jpg) - Three pussies used pull carts.  One man carried.  You figure it out.

#4 - Contest Over (http://www.xmission.com/~nolan/bandon-224/josh-tending.jpg) - This is how beautiful this place gets.  It's a cathedral.

#5 - Bandon Dunes #17 (http://www.xmission.com/~nolan/bandon-224/bandon-17.jpg) - You know how it is, biggest drive brings up the rear on approach.

#6 - Game Over (http://www.xmission.com/~nolan/bandon-224/pacific-19.jpg) - After living with a guy for two days you let him touch you in familiar ways.

Nice pics Uisce!

Oddly enough as I was going through my photos I found a couple with me standing there with a bright shiny new white golf glove.  ;D

I was trying to think of my favorite hole (you're right - #4 at Pacific is incredible) but I couldn't. It is such a cool place to be a golfer.

Good luck!

I'm just frightened to think about how those two are keeping warm at night.... and who gets the 'dominant' position in the evenings spooning.

Fixed.  :)

Looking at "Game Over", I'm surprised to report that, three years later, I'll be wearing the same hat, rain jacket, rain pants, and golf shoes!  My hands are a little higher on my follow-through now, but I've now got more grey hair and I'm uglier.

Clive don't worry about it, UB is not that shallow, he will still feel the same way about you as he did before. ;D ;D ;D

Crap, I even packed the same sweater as I'm wearing in that fireside picture.

At first, I was a bit confused by the pictures UB posted since Clive was speaking of this Bandon excursion in the future tense. Now I realize that this their ANNUAL :airquotes: fishing trip :airquotes:. NTTAWWT

I think they're time travelers, man. [sm_smoking]  Look at how their clothes never seem to change in pictures over the years not to mention the fastidious attention to verb tense.  I bet they've been sent back here to warn us about something, but not before squeezing in a few rounds first.

It's funny how guys dress in general, there are some guys where you can almost pinpoint the year when they decided to stop caring and just stick with a look and go with it and damn what everyone thinks.

Still penciled in for next year, though I may well have totally forgotten how to golf by then. So it won't be that different from last time we played.

Planning on reserving a four spot for first week in Dec. next year.  First come first serve after Uisce, Uisce's cousin and Clive with Spacey a firm maybe and Fuzzy and Horatio Hornblower a touch softer (what else is new).  Hope I didn't miss anyone from PMs of a couple of months ago.

Hoping to turn it into eight.  Well under a grand for airfare, four nights, three rounds of golf, grub and beer.  You can't beat it.

Sorry Campy.   I knew I forgot someone.  [sm_anon]

I'd reserve eight spots (if they'll even let me this early) but that's too much coin to float for a year.  I'll report back after we return and we'll go from there.

I just tried to use United's "EasyCheckIn-Online" system.  My itinerary has magically been changed from what I booked back in August.  I'm now flying out through DEN instead of SFO, but the times work OK.

Coming back, my previous EUG-SFO-CLT has been replaced with EUG-SFO-PHX-PIT-CLT.   [sm_shock]  Oh, I think someone at United is going to get an earful when I get to the airport.  I didn't pay one-layover price for a THREE-*goshdarn*-layover return flight.

Putatively departing Tue 632PM, subject to what I can get via aggressive-lawyer bitching.

Doable but cuts into last pints time.

I still have to grip four clubs, three of which I just put together last night.  Then pack the golf travel bag.  Then pack the suitcase.  Then weigh the travel bag, and shuttle things into the suitcase if over 50 pounds.

The reconfigure the Linksys modem that reset itself and no longer lets us work wirelessly, 'cause my wife will freak if she can't see the Internet while I'm gone.  (Or if I'm home, for that matter.)  Then pack the laptop, only if I can get the router fixed.

Then have a Guinness (hair of the dog that I'd like to bite me, repeatedly) and fall asleep.

Luckily, 0545 wake-up here.

One hour on the phone to get the Internets back.  Yay.

Two loads of laundry through both machines, for the three items I needed.  (One was in the first load that had already been washed but not dried.)

Feeling very stressed right now.  Those of you who know me will not be surprised to hear that I'm usually packed for a trip no later than dinner the day before.

One hour on the phone to get the Internets back.  Yay.

I so love ISP companies.

Classic, old convo:

ME: account info and error info
ISP1: try connecting to the internet and tell me what happens
ME: this is the error I get.  I can't connect right now because I'm on the phone.
ISP1: okay, well, try connecting and tell me what you get
ME: Um, I have dial-up, and I don't have a cell phone at the moment.  This is what I've been getting....

Me calling back later (on cell phone), same problem.

ME: account and error info
ISP2: what OS are you running?
ME: Windows ME
ISP2: did you check the built-in firewall
ME: (inaudible sigh 'cause ME doesn't have a built-in firewall) uhh...

Me calling back again (on cell phone), same problem.

ME: account and error info, and a run-down of the 2 previous convos
ISP3: (I'm sure he's shaking his head as much as I am) knowledgeable answer
ME: thanks (w00t!)

And, of course, the first 2 convos were not that short.  The third guy seemed to actually be knowledgeable enough.

FWIW, the issue was with my router, not the DSL.  My call was with our company's IT dude, who set up my home network.  Either the router went nuts and decided to re-create itself, or someone hacked it and changed its name and login username/password.  The extra time was because we have a laptop (which can be hardwired) and a desktop (wireless only as it's on the second floor, where there are no phone jacks; take your "really really long cables" comments and stuff them  [sm_devil]), and it was the desktop that had to be fully Internet-operational before I can leave with the laptop.

Clubs gripped, travel bag packed.  8)  I'm about to zip up to work now, both to weigh the travel bag (I got hammered for an overweight bag once) and to set up my Out of Office thing, which I forgot in the rush to get home.  :sad3:
