Title: Max Bench Press - Kevin Durant and others
Post by: dystopia on June 08, 2007, 01:00:08 AM
This story is a little late, but I heard it discussed on the radio earlier today.

So Kevin Durant can't lift 185 lbs at the NBA draft camp, but which of these numbers do you believe?

George W. Bush benches more than Kevin Durant

I feel like a total puss now, I hope they're not true.  But I bet most are although I have no idea how much badasses can bench.  I'm more in the Matt Leinhart territory. :'(

I once did 5 push-ups and I weigh over 200. Does that count for anything?

I know a guy who worked out with Karl Malone a few times. He claims Karl could max upwards of 500 lbs. (Knowing this guy, he inflates everything by about 10-15% so I'd guess real-life was somewhere in the low to mid 400s, but still...)

Back when I actually worked out religiously, my one-rep max was about 210. Not that Impressive I realize, but hey, at least I tried, so screw you!

That Malone stat wouldn't surprise me, he's friggin huge.

Back when I was a gymnast in college (insert joke here) I benched 240 X 1. Not bad for a short guy.

We're actually wondering in Seattle if this isn't one of those pre draft rumors that you hear about, it's almost like someone is trying to scare another someone from drafting this kid.

Even if it's true we have to draft him, he definitely needs to bulk up and hit the weight room (not necessarily in that order), the kid just might be a franchise player, and for a team that desperately needs a superstar to maybe save the franchise, besides he's not done growing yet.

Just 'cause it's funny as hell (and not 'cause anybody cares)......

A long, long time ago I saw Jimmy Osmond try to bench press an empty bar, and he needed help from his spotter! [sm_shock]  Wouldn't have believed it myself had I not seen it with my own two eyes.

Why would anyone want to press a bench? [sm_scratch]
