Title: Michael Jackson (The Beer Hunter) passes away
Post by: Spartan on August 30, 2007, 10:42:18 AM
Those of you who homebrew will know who I'm talking about.

I met Mr. Jackson in 1993 at the Oregon Brewers Festival after the AHA convention.  We had just received samples of Bridgeport's festival beer, Pin Tail Ale and he asked me what I thought of it.  I was very surprised (and pleased) when my comments ended up in the next edition of his "Pocket Guide to Beer."

He wrote the book on homebrewing.

You don't often get to use that line.

Doh.  It's been a while.

I have a little blue recipe book I think is by Jackson but it's not listed on Amazon.  Has a great Scottish Ale.

I haven't gone in a few years.  When I lived in CA, myself and a couple of friends used to make a road trip up every year, intent on hitting as many micro-breweries as we could on the trip up and back.  We used to stay at the Kennedy school McMenamins, and stayed pretty much hammered for 4 days.

That's a really cool place too.  Love the lady that does/did the glass blowing.  We've got several of her pieces about the house.

#2 son lives in Portland.  Can't wait to get back there.
