Title: Question for Aske
Post by: Spanky on September 17, 2007, 10:52:29 AM
or anyone else who wishes to chime in.

Which do you like better the XBox or Wii? I think we have similar tastes in games and and since a new computer is out of the question at this point a new console might. We have a GameCube mostly for the boys but the oldest boy (me) is hungry for the new stuff (and the old PC can't handle the new stuff like Crysis  :sad3: ).

I think we have similar tastes in games...

I'm so thankful you qualified that.  I believe there's a limit of one genius, crackpot, anarchist, nihilist Texan per online golf forum.  Unfair?  Probably.  Arbitrary?  Certainly.  For the greater good of humankind?  Without a shred of doubt.

If you're really into gaming, you would be bored with the Wii. (for now)  I'm thinking some better games are coming but not for a while.

For us (me and the 9 y/o girl)  it's perfect.  If you want super graphics, and intense game play, you may be disappointed in it right now.

It does play all of the Game Cube games however.

well, it's a tough call as the 2 are designed and intended for 2 totally different ends of the market !

the wii is your family friendly dedicated gaming console with easy gaming , revolutionary control, and overall low price point.
the 360 is your higher tech friendly gaming console/HTPC-lite device with more advanced gaming/graphics ability , more standard controls and higher price point.

if you intend to get an HDTV then certainly if graphics are a priority to you the xbox360 would have a huge edge as it outputs at 1080p*(upto) vs. 480p in the wii.  the xbox360 also has a bigger game library right now, the much bigger online play environment, and also has one significant additional plus if you are considering hd-dvd, then it offers the very low price addon (however, buying now would be a mistake, wait a bit for the next big promotion...) . ultimately if price is not a discriminating factor (say $300 vs. up to $600 for a machine , and a few accessories) ... then you should view the purchase in 2 terms:

1: game library that appeals to you
2: ultimate plans for incorporation into future home theater development

I'll never purchase an xbox.

The reason?  The controllers are so huge and bulky.  Held one once, felt like I was holding a football - and not the little kid size, a full-size nfl football.  Okay, so that was a bit of an exaggeration, and probably something that wouldn't matter to you anyway.  But little people with little hands need to take things like that into consideration.

grow bigger hands

lol, just that simple.  Then they'd be too big for the rest of me.  I know, I know... just grow.

I like being my size.  Really.  It just makes things a bit difficult at times, especially not that there's more of a focus to make things more suitable for the above average people.  Oh, well. That's not much, and it is fun to surprise people with what I can do.

In the brief talk I had with SWMBO yesterday I mentioned the XBox and there was some hemhawing going on and the you have to buy games, and you have games for the computer, then this. "So do you really want your computer?"
