Title: The Death of a Par 3 Post by: E-A-G-L-E! on August 22, 2008, 10:18:12 AM I'm sure I've mentioned that a favorite par 3 has lain dormant for the last few years, bought out to seemingly be neglected. A very sad sight. Well, last summer they began to put some roads through it, and this year has me totally disappointed, leaving absolutely no hope that whatever replaces it would be able to even partially fill those empty shoes. That little golf course, including the beautiful hole where my grandfather got a hole in one, is being turned into a costco. :'(

it's not all bad... where else can you get a law degree, ride from the entrance to the red sofa section, and then stop next door to get gentleman's latte ? Title: Re: The Death of a Par 3 Post by: Clive on August 23, 2008, 05:06:03 PM I first learned to play on a little par-3. Holes were something like 50-110 yards long. TINY greens. Hit of mats. And I don't mean fake grass mats like at driving ranges -- I mean MATS, like the kind made of woven rubber strips that you'd put on your front porch in the 70s. Lots of memories of playng there with friends, family, even a couple dates. And carrying a wedge and putter with on my paper route, then sneaking onto the course and practicing chipping/putting until the fear of getting caught overwhelmed me.
