so attached is a template bracket (as I couldn't find a bracket contest online)...  since we only have maybe 10 people interested, I don't think it will be too hard to keep track of on here.



Instructions
For each series, 'pencil in' the winning team, # of total games, and # of total goals scored for the winning team (the 2nd two criteria to be used to help break any possible ties)


DON'T publicly post your picks ! -- I will post a big list after everyone submits them.   That way nobody is influenced by seeing other peoples choices.

Scoring
Round 1- winning team, 2 point.  # of games in series, 1 point bonus
Round 2- winning team, 5 points. # of games in series, 2 point bonus
Round 3- winning team, 8 points. # of games in series, 3 points bonus
Finals- winning team, 16 points. # of games in series, 5 points bonus


Maximum possible score therefore: (16,8)+(20,8)+(16,6)+(16,5)=95
Prediction of goals per victor per series will be used in the event of a total points tie with* the same champion team.  In the event of a total points tie with differing champion teams, the person predicting the victorious Stanley Cup Champion will win without any other tie-breakers.





For the less initiated, the NHL playoffs follow the following series formats:
Each series is a best of 7.  The higher seed has home ice advantage(4-3), and the game schedule goes  H,H,L,L,H,L,H  in terms of home ice for High seed (H) , Low seed (L). 

After the 1st round, In the second round, or Conference Semifinals, the NHL re-seeds  with the top remaining conference seed playing against the lowest remaining seed, and the other two remaining conference teams pairing off. 
* Therefore, pick your 2nd round matchups carefully and accordingly.

Just to clarify: after the first round the remaining teams are re-seeded based on their original rankings, so it's not like a traditional bracket. Meaning if Ottawa, NYR, NJ, and Buffalo were to win their respective first rounds, in the second round, Buffalo (1) would play NYR (6) and NJ (2) would play Ottowa (4). But if ATL (3) beat NYR (6) then Buffalo (1) would play Ottowa (4) and NJ (2) would play ATL (3). Is this correct?

Actually, I'd be happy to facilitate the NBA playoff contest, but after I check my schedule it turns out that I'm going to be in Las Vegas for 5 days during the first round (April 24-29) so if we can find an automated system (cbssportsline or the like) I can run it. Otherwise I'll probably have to pass the buck to someone who can pay better attention to it than I will be able to. I can still come up with some meager prizes to contribute even if I don't run it.

well, the pens handed the sens an early goal, and are down 2-1 since to make it 3-1 total

interestingly, it should be about 5-1 since the officials are having a whistel frenzy in ottawas favor.  3:50 of total 5-3 time for the sens so far
