Title: Fantasy Football 2009
Post by: dystopia on August 24, 2009, 10:21:18 AM
OK, it's getting close to the beginning of the season, so I'd better get moving on this.

Prize this year is $40 paypal for the winner.

Monday night was suggested for the draft, so it's currently set for  Mon Aug 31 9pm Eastern/6pm Pacific.  Let me know if you'd prefer a different day/time.

If we get 12 or more teams, we'll go with a 6 team playoff.  Otherwise, it'll just be a 4 team playoff.

Rule changes from last year:
1. Instead of 3 WR and 2 RB, this year we have 2 WR, 2RB, and 1 Flex player.
2. Fractional scoring

Quote
Fractional Points Details
By choosing to allow fractional yardage points, all players receive fractional points for every yard gained. So if your league awards one point for every 20 rushing yards, you would receive 1/20 of a point for each yard gained.

If you set this option to no, your players will only receive one point at every 20 yards, and nothing in between. So, a player rushing for 0-19 yards would receive no points, a player rushing for 20-39 yards would receive one point, a player rushing for 40-59 yards would receive two points, etc.

If you wish to award fractional points for a specific scoring category, simply enter a fractional number as the point modifier for that category.

Rules changes still being considered.  Please weigh in if you have a preference.
1. shutout worth 14 pts for defense (instead of 10)

Rules changes rejected
1. 1 pt bonus for passing > 300yds or rushing/receiving > 100yds
2. add draft of 1-2 additional defensive individual players per team
3. points for plays over 10 yards. (don't see that as an option)

Mrs. Walfredo might be interested in playing.  We both can do Monday night as long as she isn't birthing our second son due any day now.

That's great!  My wife got mad at me last year when she was in labor and I was trying to set my roster before heading to the hospital. (knowing I wouldn't have access to a computer for a few days)

(and congrats!)

I really don't care either way because I can make it Monday night but I'm just putting it out there.

I'm in the big money executive fantasy football league this year for the first time.  Draft is set for Sept. 3rd.  If this baby makes me miss even one of my drafts I'll never forgive him for it.

LOL it's in "inside" joke.

Our toddler coined the term actually which will be more appropriate when our baby boy arrives.  She'll be outnumbered 3 to 1.

7pm is the earliest I can do. If that's going to be too late for the CDT folks, then no big deal. Last year I did OK missing half the draft and picking up Tom Gheydy with my first pick. I might do even better with my draft on autopilot.

It was the exact opposite for me until the baby boy was born--wife, daughter, and two female dags.

OK, let's see if we can keep iterating and find an optimum day/time for this draft.

Does anyone have a preference between these two days/times?

Sunday Aug 30 9pm Eastern/8pm Central/6pm Pacific
Monday Aug 31 10pm Eastern/9pm Central/7pm Pacific

Title: Re: Fantasy Football 2009

Either works for me. The earlier time would be better but I could put my draft on Auto in the later rounds so either time works.

Title: Re: Fantasy Football 2009
Post by: Walfredo on August 25, 2009, 07:12:07 AM
Either is good as long is she isn't being induced those nights.  I'll try and plan the babies arrival around my drafts.  I wonder if I should call and see if our room has wifi or a LAN connection.

OK, it looks like the late Monday night draft will work out the best to try to get everyone.

I'm not sure we even have anyone playing in the Eastern time zone, so it might not be too bad.  Also, last year the draft went by much faster than I expected, so hopefully only the last few rounds will be too late.

It looks like we'll end up with 9-10 players, so I switched back to a 4 team playoff instead of 6.

We've got an odd number of players, so if you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late to join.  Having byes isn't very fun in fantasy football.

Hey, we got our 11th team today (sTlrKill@h)!

Since fantasy football byes aren't any fun, I added a dummy 12th team.  This team will follow the "twoiron" strategy from last year. (autodraft according to default yahoo draft order, no trades, no roster changes due to injuries or byes).

It's usually an easy win, but sometimes crazy things happen.  Those are the breaks.

Now that we have 12 teams, would you guys prefer 4 teams in the playoffs or 6 teams (top 2 get a bye in first week of playoffs).

I have no preference.  On the one hand, we only have 12 teams (11 real teams) and 6 making the playoffs makes the regular season not matter as much.

But then again, if 6 make the playoffs, the top 2 teams get rewarded with a bye in the first round of the playoffs, so there's a distinction between the top 2 and the next 4.

Let's try something new this year.  6 teams now make the playoffs.
Quote
Playoffs changed from 'Week 16 and 17 (4 teams)' to 'Week 15, 16 and 17 (6 teams)'

I'm still trying to get a handle on your language, which is strange since it's the same words I use, but you people manage to use them all *fudge*ed up and out of order.

So, you were?

A. Traveling on business

B. On vacation (or holiday, which makes absolutely no sense, since you aren't actually off on a specified government observed day)

C. Were whacked by a criminal syndicate, and had your body disposed of by being placed in concrete in a roadway connecting multiple geographic areas or States, and thusly you literally were interstate.

I'm still trying to get a handle on your language, which is strange since it's the same words I use, but you people manage to use them all *fudge*ed up and out of order.

So, you were?

B. On vacation (or holiday, which makes absolutely no sense, since you aren't actually off on a specified government observed day)

In answer to your question:

Initially A. Travelling on Business; and

now B. On vacation.

So yes "out of town"

My knowledge of NFL is based purely on what I know from movies and tv:- I know that the Quarter Back is the guy that gets all the ladies... and that the rest of the time, they all hang around the showers slapping eachother on the ass.

I did think at one point I was gone for all money and unfortunately it appears that your guy - Matt Forte "fell down dead" which was the only way I was going to win.

Basically 27 points ahead of sTlrKill@h going into tonight. He's got Eagles D left.

At the 2:00 warning I'm now 2.12 ahead.  :sad3:  Washington has the ball and I desperately want them to score or punt. It's unbelievable as it has been nothing but sacks, INT's, fumbles, etc.

who wants to do a statistical analysis of  average score, stdev, and 95% CI of beating opponent that week and see how it correlates to the actual W/L ?

ps, I crafted my roster , of course without knowing what injuries would happen and so forth,  such that I would have 4 or 5 of my main starters on a bye the same week for a reason.   chalking up 1 week as a probably L  isntead of sweating 2 or 3   is far less stressful, imho.

I think a nice statistical analysis would be interesting but.....

I'm still firmly in the "it is all in the luck of the draw" crowd on FF. I was basically in the same position, points-wise, last year and won the regular season. And one off week in the playoffs killed me.

That's a strategy I've heard before but it kind of handcuffs you on the players available. I think I'd rather have 4-5 superior players spread out over 2 or 3 byes than 4-5 who happen to be from the same bye weekend.

It's definitely easier on the roster decisions though.

Actually, I've been thinking about this and I would like to set up a league similar to how the Premier League Fantasy game is done. You could set it up as a total points or actually team vs. team every week.

This takes some of the luck out and puts more rewards on being able to pick the best players. It also eliminates the advantages/disadvantages of the draft at the beginning of the year. Everyone starts on equal footing and has access to all players.

I didn't worry about bye weeks other than QBs because the roster is so big we can hoard players.  In another league you carry only 4 wr/te and start 3.  bye weeks matter.  Carry 4 rbs start two.  You must carry two K and Def and QB on your roster at all times only starting one of each.  It's interesting who has to get dropped.  I picked up Calvin Johnson and dropped Santonio Holmes then dropped Calvin for Percy Harvin.  The free agent pool is broader.  At first I didn't like it but now I like the roster set up.

LOL  I know.  I guess I should have been more clear, and actually put the onus on myself.

I procrastinated all week, and then we had to leave early on Sunday (had no interest on a Queens bye week anyway)  Sometime in the afternoon, around 3:30 I had one of those Aw *fudge*!  moments, remembering I had neglected my lineup.  Didn't pick any games in the other deal either, so I got that goin' for me as well.

I blame you for everything!

Even when Darla yells at me for leaving the seat up.

Nice.....Overnight, Ray Rice was adjusted down 2 points.

It seems I just went from a 102.00-100.08 win to a 100.00-100.08 loss.  [sm_shock]

I blame the Lions because Rice sat out the whole 4th quarter due to the blow-out.  [sm_devil]

LOL that was a crazy one.  Funny thing is I have Rice in another league and greatly benefited from him.  .08 is less than a yard right?  Blame Dys and fractional scoring.

WTF? I've been out of the loop the past few days. I just looked at the league and I was credited with 1.2 points and now I won the game 101.20-100.08.

And moved from #6 to #3.

I can't remember individuals scores so I'm not sure who got adjusted. Crazy *feces*.

For the record, the three week playoff sux.  The final being on week 17 is a total crapshoot.

My Fantasy Football season doesn't usually last past Thanksgiving, so playoffs are something foreign to me.

For next year, assuming we have another 12 team league, would you prefer going back to a two-week/4 team playoff or keeping it three-week/6 teams and moving the playoffs a week earlier so the final is on week 16?

Not sure.  What about a top 4 playoff and a next 4 consulation bracket playoff both 2 weeks starting week 15 if possible?

I like the final round being in the 17th week. This forces you have a strong bench.

Well played Fuzzy.

It's been a tough season, and I must say I was fortunate to make it to the Final against a worthy opponent.

From the outset it was always going to be a diffiucult match up in the final, but as they say, the better team won on the day.

Congratulations Fuzzy you are a worthy winner.

To my guys, you played hard and gave it your all. There's always next year.

To the sponsors:- Thank you, Golfhos. Dystopia, you always run a fabulous tournament.  To all the other teams, without you this type of event wouldn't be possible without you. I'd like to single you all out individually, but it's difficult to put in to words each of you and your teams contribution to this event. It's been amzing to be part of this event for 2009.

We'll back in 2010.

San Dimas High School Football rocks!!

Fuzzy Skwirls are having a monster day  [sm_shock]

After a 1-4 start this year I fired my head coach, Omar Arians, and finished the season 11-1 while scoring over 100 points in 10 of those games. My squad really responded well to the change and I commend them on their championship year.  8)

As far as my opinion on the playoffs, I don't like using week 17 as the championship. I wouldn't be upset either way but I'd prefer last year's format. Or if we want 6 teams in the playoffs move them up to weeks 14,15,16.
