Title: Most Annoying Fans in Sports
Post by: dystopia on October 01, 2007, 12:41:01 PM
Who do you think are the most annoying fans in all of sports?

I know a lot of people like to see Yankees, Patriots, Lakers, or Maple Leafs fans get their comeuppance.  A lot of people enjoyed seeing Raiders fans in pain during the "Tuck Rule" game.  And some people dislike teams with claims of "America's Team", i.e. Cowboys, Braves.

College teams might be even more hated like Notre Dame or Miami football or Duke or UNC hoops.

Or how about individuals?  Many people find fans of Tiger Woods annoying even if they like the guy himself.

I have very little knowledge about nascar or futbal, so I'm not sure which fans are despised there. Dale Earnhardt, Jr.? Chelsea?

What's your top 3 most annoying fans across sports?

2.  LSU Tigers (those *fudge*ers are just plain crazy)
3.  "Get in the Hole" morans

1.  United fans.
2.  Argentines defending Maradona and HOG goal.
3.  Patriots fans (*).

* If I'm honest, that one is influenced strongly by the fact that they're so damn good and have figured out how to have a dynasty under the salary cap.  Having read dave2golf's posts on the subject for a couple of years didn't help.

edit: 'Fredo's #3 is right up there too.

A's fans (the "Billy Ball" and "Bash Brother" era's were the absolute worst)
Niner Fans (not the die hard, old grizzled fans, but the arrogant bandwagon jumpers who climbed aboard during the Montana years)
Raider Fans (do I really need to explain this one?)

How are A's fans 'Annoying', unless of course you mean the ones that just show up for the playoffs, usually wearing a Raidah's jersey...

It’s probably not fair to single out all A’s fans, but from my experience the typical A’s fan you meet varies by how well the team is doing.  Go to Oakland/Alameda Coliseum when the A’s aren’t doing particularly well, and you meet some good folks.   Go see the A’s play when they are in the hunt, and every *bunghole* in the Bay Area is there, talking *feces* about a game that they have no clue should be played.

I’m sure this same scenario plays out in a lot of different markets, I just happen to see it during my 20 years in the Bay Area.

1) Argentines defending Maradona and HOG goal  ;)
2) Boston fans, dave2golf by himself may have bumped them up from #5 on my list  ::)
3) And if the Cubs were actually a winner each year - their fans would be insufferable.  But as it is, they're kinda funny  ;D  (pushing my way up Spartans list  ;) )

As you know, for some crazy ass reason, we're still in their regional market when it comes to away games.  Go figure.  Nothing like watching Niners @ Detroit when the national game is Cowboys @ Philly.

Remember when a twelve hour drive used to actually mean something.

And yes it does suck seeing the Niners and the Donkeys every week.  And whats up with that obscure SLC channel (68?) that broadcasts the Raider Television Network?

Cub's fans?????  We haven't won in 100 years, and we still root for our team.  How can that be annoying?  Well, maybe that's why we're annoying  :D .

1.  University of Maryland fans.  The absolute worst fans, bar none.

2.  Yankees fans.  Who needs 'em?

3.  Eagles fans.  They freakin' threw snowballs at SANTA CLAUS, for crying out loud.

I don't mind most fans as long as they're loyal to their team. The guy I hate is the Yankees/Cowboys/Lakers/Red Wings fan who brags about how "his" team(s) kicked your ass and how many titles they have won. Bandwagon jumpers disgust me, especially when they have zero connection to the city or team, and just happen to root for perennial winners.

Exactly. Snowballs at drunks was a Family Day promotion down at Vet Stadium, as it should have been.

Most shocking lunch I ever had is when years ago I went to lunch with an OSU alum, and i being an OU alum, mentioned that I hoped OSU would go 11-1 that year as they had a decent team.  He looked at me and said "I hope your team goes 0-12"  I thought he was joking as we were both state university alums, and he reiterated "I hate OU, I always hope that they lose every game."  I thought he was an exception to OSU students/grads, but have found since then that many OSU fans (but not all)  share his sentiment.  I'm not against LSU, but I'm not fond of their head coach, Les Miles, who fit right in with my OSU lunchmate when he coached at OSU.

1.  Oklahoma State Cowboy fans (morans that would rather see us lose than themselves win)
2.  LSU Tigers (those *fudge*ers are just plain crazy)
3.  "Get in the Hole" morans

Why would an Ohio State University alum care what Oklahoma University does?   [sm_dontknow]

Its obvious no one has spent much time in S. Fla.  I have lived here 22 years now and Dol-Fans are the worst bunch of bandwagon jumpers I have ever seen.  Wasn't it not just a couple of years ago they almost didn't sell out a first round play off game?  The same bunch goes for the Marlin's also.

I may reside here but my heart still belongs to the Wolverines, Pistons, Lions, Red Wings, Tigers (Ameican League Team) and yes the Marlins (National League Team).  Many years of rooting and losing mixed in there but no band wagon jumping here. [sm_banghead]

I didn't realize there was another OSU.   Do they play football?  ;)

As an aside, it annoys the hell out of me that Southwest Missouri State University changed their name to Missouri State.  Whenever I see MSU in the St. Louis paper, I think "Michigan State" and it's about Missouri State.

Hey, we aren't all bad (well, maybe my brother (he kicked Mike Mussina off his porch at Halloween one year), but most of us are okay).

Besides, I live with two Yankees fans.
