I called. Said I want to buy your car. I'm from MN. (He's in FL) He said so am I. I said, funny, I'm from FL. Why are you selling? To get money for a down payment on my house. That's why I sold my last one. What did you have? '67 convertible. Me too. He's a cop. I break the law on a regular basis. Well, I guess the last one doesn't fit as well. All in all, went smooth. Post by: worst_golfer_ever on May 23, 2007, 05:03:10 PM A couple of friends of mine tried to sell a car on eBay, and said it was pretty awful from the seller's side. Some folks would try to game the seller's rating system to scare off other buyers. They also got some weird offers - someone wanted to trade food for the car. Other folks wanted to make a deal outside of eBay - deals that sounded way too scam-like.
So, I'd expect that small-time sellers would be pretty happy if they got a serious cash offer from a serious person, though they might be jaded/suspicious of a scam at first. One guy even wrote an exceptionally long travelogue, as he flew from the East Coast to New Mexico to pick up the bike and then rode it back cross-country.
